  1. i had a similar problem (for my cbr 125 engine) i ended up attaching half a silicone U bend to "imitate" the airbox then a free flow pod filter with a shroud. worked quite well but the idea is to make the intake suck the air from the carb. so by rights it needs some resistance. the foam inside the filter isnt a good idea.... last thing you need is bits of foam entering the engine. have you thought of making a shroud of some sort for the filter? something like a beer can chopped in half then a hole in the bottom to push the rubber boot of the filter through. this should create the resistance needed to sort it out. (need to re-jet to suit) might be worth a play to see if it helps.
  2. hello and welcome to the mad house! put it this way if someone was going to pinch it then what would happen? it would either be striped down for parts or exported out of the country so best to make it hard to pinch and data dot should help. the tracker is ok but its sort of pot luck if the coppers get a signal.. im not sure if there out there yet but if you can find one.....have a look at gps tracker that you can access with a pc. iv not seen one myself but with all the gps technology nowadays i cant see why no one has thought of it.
  3. use a 97.5 main jet (if yours is smaller) and play with the jet needle to get it spot on! thats what i used with a straight through exhaust. but be warned a bigger bang puts more strain on the engine!
  4. have you tried the screwdriver trick? i know it sounds daft but it works. get a long screwdriver and put the pointy end on a part of the engine, now put your ear on the handle . (you can listen through the screwdriver!) its a great trick for finding noises coming from the engine, try different places on the engine to locate exactly where it is coming from. soz....you posted b4 i did lol
  5. the frame is all standard... (apart from me chopping the rear mudguard mount off at the main frame and replacing with a sissy bar) the gear selector bar from the lever to the engine was shortened and a chunk taken out the bracket to accommodate the new angle. new mount plates were made for the rear engine brackets. then the original front engine mount was chopped off and now is just a 10mm bit of studding with mounts made for either end and welded to the foot control brackets. iv got stupidly long arms so decided to make the seat thinner and about 3 inch further back, plus with the risers it allows me to be comfy on the bike....and gives the effect of forward controls without having to spend 400 quid. still got to make a proper seat for it.....the one thats on there is just a tester but it gets it on the road. one weird thing iv found is that its more controllable by controllable i mean if the back end slides out in the rain you can control it round a corner and sort of drift....wich is fun!
  6. to be honest with you m8 your getting the most out of your engine! the xv 125 virago v twin engine has a week crank so you dont want to thrash it (trust me iv blown 3 engines and replaced a crank in one ) the only way your going to satisfy your need for speed is to get a different bike. you could do an engine change for something with a bit more strength and power (like a cbr 125 engine) but its allot of work and if you do it all yourself your looking at about £1000 so would be cheaper to get a different bike. but a sprocket change would help (a little.....and i mean a little!), you can get them at wemoto.com if you get more teeth then it improves top end speed but takes away a bit of acceleration, and if you get one with less teeth you get better acceleration but a drop in top speed. sorry to burst your bubble but the engine just cant take it.
  7. just put a post up in the custom section and see how many replys you get.
  8. ul be suprised how many folk on here are looking for exhausts like that for the xv 125 virago and the xvs 125 dragstar!
  9. if you can get your m8 to make more of them exhausts im sure you could sell them on here for £90!!! a pop ....looks mint!!!! and bet it sounds great.
  10. and how/where are you going to attach the number plate? looks good m8. needs the rear end droping closer to the wheel. either get some struts or sdmaller shocks.
  11. it could be......but then it would play up in 1st and 2nd.... what colour are your plugs? it could be a fueling/mix problem or even your air filter. as the engine goes through the gears it sucks more fuel and air giving more power.....it takes more boom to get more torque so a lean mixture will cause it to bog down and die in higher gears. what have you got for a filter setup? is it standard? and also do you know what size jets you have?
  12. well iv looked on google maps and to my suprise its only a 2 hour drive so yeah think il join .....its about time i met everyone just a question ........do you take the motorway? or do you take the A and B roads? iv only got a provisional so the motorway is a no go.
  13. hi all iv finally sorted out the project! its all done .....well the frame could do with a new paint job and im getting a new seat but apart from that its done!!!! yay so yeah.....here are some pics.....plus iv tried to put it in the garage section on here but for some reason i cant . and for all those that dont know here is a list of mods done to the xvs 125. cbr 125 (04) engine with polished head 14bhp free flow pod filter with custom intake pipe venom exhaust custom engine and radiator mounts custom loom custom seat custom seat mount custom numberplate side mount custom radiator expansion bottle rear mud guard mount chopped off sissy bar welded to frame custom front and rear mudguards custom L.E.D light conversion to clocks, indicators and rear light electric rev counter 4.5 inch bar risers drag bars anodized grips custom battery box custom paint job (rims) matt black paint (tank & fenders) finishing strip (fender and tank edge) stainless steel braided hose
  14. dont worry about parts for the year (its not like a car) yamaha are not going to make big changes in design and change parts for a 125 because of the year the bike was made .....well not for the xvs 125 anyway! its more than likely your bike didnt get on the road till 2005 so ANY parts for an xvs dragstar 125 will fit no probs! believe it or not the xvs dragstar has allot of parts off the xv 125 virago! as its sort of like the cousin of the virago.
  15. well its not going to the breakers i can guaranty that! its just on offer ........if i had it for a project then id end up spending too much and probably end my relationship with the mother of my children .......so was just thinking of sorting out the fairing and the starting problem then sell it on for a small profit. but 350 quid sounds a bit much considering you can get a decent nick one from e-bay for about £700
  16. its pretty easy to be honest so the only tip i can give you is dont loose any bits!
  17. ha ha ha mint! shame you cant get away with that nowadays
  18. hi all im in need of some advice! iv been offered a honda vfr 750 1991 in white for £350 the problems:- its done just over 50k all the fairing needs new clips to attach it to the bike as there all snapped its got an underlining starting problem .....works then decides it dont want to work then works again. the rear tire has a slow puncture. im wanting to get it, spend 100 quid getting the fairing sorted and painted, then sell it on but for a total of £450 is it gonna be worth it? and how much would i be looking to sell it on for?
  19. get the 04 disk. it will bolt straight on (as far as i know they only made the bike up to 04 but urs might have only been registered in 05 ) as to getting someone to fit it........id do it my self. saves some dosh and its not hard.
  20. oh and look into some smaller shocks to lower that back end! lol
  21. just take the manual as a guideline for the "standard" setup the clutch looks ok just set your biting point to what you like. and as to the gear lever you should be able to adjust it via the link bar. but if not then you could move the bit that connects it to the engine.
  22. you have done a good job there m8 looks mint as to a bigger back wheel/tire yeah there is a spacer but there is only about half an inch either side of the swingarm (where it goes in to the frame) its a weird shape and you might struggle to fit a bigger tire/wheel......then there is the chain to think about will it line up properly? it needs to be spot on straight otherwise bad things will happen. but have you considered changing the seat? i dont know if you have noticed but its huge! and makes the back wheel look small. if you replace with a smaller one it will make the back wheel look bigger. juts take the seat off and have a look from the back, you will see what i mean. plus its a cheaper option. i looked into it a few years ago and it would of cost me £200 to get a bigger back wheel on and sorted, but it meant bending the swingarm out to make it wider and putting new sprockets on. ohh just thought you could get away with it if you extended the swingarm..? just means you would have to buy 2 chains and put extra links on.
  23. i think your best bet would be to decide exactly what kinda "look" your wanting. have a look on google to get an idea of what your going for. oh and as to indicators the front ones have a rubber mount...the light comes off the rubber but there is a round chunk of metal/chrome in there. if you cut round it to the metal (like your taking the rubber of wire, you can stick it in a vice and twist the metal bit out. then you can put any other indicator in the mount handy tip for ya. as to wheels its going to be tricky finding some to fit.......good luck! but could you get plastic covers? that go over the spokes? have a look on e-bay for lights.....the only problem i found is finding a rear light with an adjustable mount....(comes in handy trust me!)
