I really hope so John. Great pics and looked like a good tour that Pat posted. I will get some painting done tomorrow hopefully. Indicators - on their way. Worked out all of the lights - fronts all working Got a patten tail light for it - on tomorrow Tested the horn connections with a tester - works on the button The rectifier gets really hot but not fitted the battery properly as I need to do some work on the battery box. The seat is shot but I have a plan A few other bits to get, and of course, the wheels. You lucky............................... . If you decide it is not for you, Give me first refusal please. If it is the banna shaped exhaust one, parts are very easy to come by. If it is the same shape as mine then good luck and very deep pockects will be required. A lot of stuff will be the same as mine and the ER. I think the 76 only had a Nicosil barrel. It only lasted for this year but is interchangeable with later ones (incuding the ER). A lot of ER stuff fits as does the 185's BUT a lot doesn't!! A lot of stuff shared with the GT's (all) and X5/7's Be aware that there are loads of parts you will struggle to find. I have a shed full of spares but some are too rare to share. I have a couple of original manuals but they are very basic and the haynes one isn't worth getting. Although I have had this one for about 18 months, I actually haven't ridden it.

Latest update. Forks on. Headlamp shell on. Axles and chain adjusters on ready for the wheels. Electrics started.
  4. Very interesting Nev. I don't think it is for me although there would be cash to be made in doing this for some custom bikes. I am still undecided. I can get a high level colour coded plastic mudguard for £40 delivered and an OEM chrome cable holder for £20 These were fitted to the USA and late models. I can't even find a picture of my model with the wheel wrap around mudguard, but they were fitted to them. The M/guard does make the model look dated so I guess that everyone wanted a high level one to give the bike that "modern" feel. There was a dented NOS one on ebay a while ago for £200.
  5. For the overheating I would check: Timing Valve clearances Oil pump performance, oil pipes for blockages. Oil filters/strainers for blockages. Carb rubbers See it you can stop the leak by pinching the bolts up (a little tightening). If not then it is a new gasket.

Hi and welcome to the forum Mick.
  7. Tubless valves are normally pulled in from the inside to the outside, so no. A decent tyre fitter could remove the tyres, change the valves and repace the tyres but it would be a relatively high cost for what you would get.

Hi Pat. Great pics in the other thread on the Scotland tour. It was the TW301 front and TW302 rear that I specified but he said he could only get the front. They are advertised on the web but the place is 40 miles each way so have gone for something else. I just want to pick them up shod.

This was in the UK press the other day. I know how he feels!

Not good but glad to hear you are OK. Check your bike over properly. Even a slight mark can be an insurance claim and a claim against him may make him drive with his eyes open. The next biker may not be so lucky!
  11. Fab story and pictures Pat. 'tis a beautiful part of the world.

Spoke to the wheelbuilder today. The first wheel is built and the second will be built by the weekend, he was waiting for the hub paint to dry. He said that he was struggling to get the tyres I wanted in the sizes I need. He could get the front one but there were none of the rears in the Country (?) I think that it was down to the imperial sizes. I was looking at TW301/TW302's which are advertised on the Tinterweb but the rims are no good without some rubber so I said either put Conti TKC80's or Michelin T63's on it. Imperial or metric sizes are fine but match the pair. Hopefully I can collect them next Friday.

+1 unless it has been chopped to bits already. It does look rough as old boots. My kind of project

Tried neither Drewps, so far. He has until next weekend to give me a date.
  15. Cheers. I may just strip it and leave it with "character ".

Hi and welcome to the forum Andy.
  17. Just paint would be my choice. Others may differ.
  18. Paint for me. Nothing worse on hubs for me than yellow, lifting old lacquer.
  19. The stanchions will end up at pittedforks after September for some hard chroming. I have one set broken down ready to go already. The fork lowers have had a few coats of hammerite silver. Did them yesterday.
  20. Flat screwdriver always works for me for seals.block of wood under the shaft and the flat of the driver into the inner hole. Lever out. You can get posh ones like this LINKY
  21. Doesn't he play for Exeter Town? Cheers Nev but I can't do "art & crafts". I can see me ending up kicking it around the garden in frustration.
  22. That looks OK Nev. What brand was that cheers?
  23. Cheers. That's what I was afraid of.

Tell us who scammed you and we will send the boys 'round.
  25. As the title really. I have a chromed front mudguard which was painted yellow. I am in the process of stripping it and it has a certain patina in places (light rustng). Although it is solid and worth re chroming in the future, I am in two minds as to leave it for the short term or give it a couple of coats of chrome spray. Any views?
