Good on you Martin. A big welcome from me to the forum. Lets hope you get some clarification to your question in your other post. Quite a few XT owners on here and it does liven up when people have returned from work.
  2. A politician? If you insult me like that again, I will have to issue you with a warning . Could have been worse though, you could have said "Banker" (yes that was spelt correctly).

    Good luck.
  4. Can I point you to piece of information
  5. It is always bad when we buy products that are not what we expected. This is especially true when the product is of high value. I would suggest that all manufacturers, of all products, have some degree of "Friday afternoon specials". I think is is a positive thing when there are issues with products that people know about others experiences. That goes for good products and services too. You appear to have had the bike for over 2 years now and I can guess how frustrating this must have been. I can also sense that there is a similar level of frustration with the Dealership and Yamaha UK. I would be feeling the same. That said, you did initially come on to the forum for some help, telling us a little about yourself. You then have left it for over 2 years to return; and it does appear that this is to communicate your frustration with this bike, the dealer and the marque. I think the saddest thing is it looks like you like the bike but have been extremely disappointed with the quality and service you have had. I do think that you have slightly misunderstood the meaning of the forum, when used in this context. It is a place for people to come and voice there opinions; a place to ask for help; to help and; to generally socialise. We do have rules and expect a degree of netiquette and I would guess that a lot of people will have a personal bias based on the input of others and, even what bike they ride. Good luck with you biking endeavors for the future.

Is the rim 3.00 or the tyre? You should still be able to get 3.00 17's. imperial and metric tyres are measured by different methods so be careful of some of the conversions.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I totally agree. Some things are just, plain, wrong.

Understood. Are you looking to spay the whole lot; rim, drum and spokes? Without de-lacing the rim, you are not going to get a great finish. I would take the whole lot apart, get the rim and drum sprayed and get stainless spokes. I wouldn't attempt to rebuild the wheel myself, Some people have but I would have it done professionally. Don't take anything apart without measuring things first. You need to know measurements like offsets and stuff.

I think that you could do it for about a grand, a bit of messing about and the bike off the road for a couple of months.

They are Dragstar 950 wheels I think. You could import some. As for sizes you would need to see what width they are and if you could still use your brake disks or if you would need, and be able to, fit 950 calipers. The width of the rear would, I would guess, be a lot wider and the output shaft on the gearbox would need to be lengthened at the very least. A lot of work I would say.

Still viewable on my phone. Click the top left tab to get to the main screen and then scroll down. You may be stuck in the "general" section and it won't show in that.
  19. Glad the link was what you wanted. Not a bad price and saves a load of grief. When you take the rear wheel off you should be able to either get a pair of pliers on the remaining, snapped, both and pull the rest of it out or use the axle hole to prod the rest out with a screwdriver. I can't comment on the Cain except to say that you should always change the sprockets when you change the chain. If you don't the new chain will wear quicker. The chain splitter you linked to is a low quality one. This is reflected in the price. It may work, it may not. Before you invest in one make sure you don't have a soft link in the chain. If you spin the rear wheel slowly look at all of the links. A soft link will be noticeable by having a clip on the outside of the link. If you have one of these then you can remove the chain by just taking apart the link with some simple hand tools. If you don't have a soft link then you will need to cut the d chain off or use a chain splitter. The next thing to think about is how the new chain is going to be joined. There are 2 methods 1 use a soft link 2 pein the link that comes with the chain I always buy a soft link or 2 and use those. If you decide to pein the link then this is just a simple knocking over of the link pins once the chain is on. You will need to put come thing solid the opposite side of the chain to make sure you don't stretch the chain sideways.
  20. Something like this? LINKY You will need to do your own checking as to if these will fit as per the full year and model etc.

Eleven days before the nights start to close in. June 21st is the longest day this year. Stop throwing things at me. I can't change the weather.
  22. An interesting article here LINKY
  23. It could be a filter. Not 100% sure on this model as I have never owned one. My understanding is that some/all of them had a plastic tank with the main tank being just for aesthetics. The reason is that people expected the dummy tank to be there so it looked like a normal bike but there was insufficient space to hold what would be considered a decent amount of fuel. To overcome this, they put a separate tank under the seat (I think). This could mean that the dummy tank has fuel in it but there is a blockage between this and the "real" tank. There are some good pictures on this fleabay item LINKY to show you what the real tank looks like. It shows the position of the pump and petcock (fuel tap) as well. I am not saying yours is the same but if you can relate the pictures to where your petcock is, then things may be easier to picture.

Excellent. Well done on the pass.
  25. Just buy a new chain puller for it. Rear wheel off clear out the old, broken puller Pop the new puller into the swingarm Rear wheel on Adjust the new chain Job done. The rear axle is pushed through a hole in the puller.
