  1. We have had a good few sunny days but remember to be careful out there. Yesterday there was a collision outside of one of the places I work between a motorbike and a cyclist. The cyclist has died and the biker was critical, last I heard. This was 100 yards from an A&E, major trauma, hospital where your chances of survival are going to be much better. The accident was not a pretty sight - I was on my way from that hospital to the other one I work in. Hospital staff on their way to work left their cars and assisted immediately but the cyclist died. Just a reminder that things happen very quickly; sun or no sun.
  2. If it's a choice I can get you a spare kidney from work. Just let me know - don't forget to let me know your blood group too!
  3. I bit the bullet a while ago and brought a digital torque wrench. It's a fantastic bit of kit . I will get a lower range one at some time in the future but the one I have goes pretty low already.
  4. I use wax oil for things like that plus under Chrome bits.
  5. Get a ball pein and a weighted rubber/nylon if you can. 6 a good set of allen keys - not ones on a spring key ring nor ones in a swiss army knife format.
  6. 1 screwdriver set 2 selection of hammers 3 selection of pliers and grips 4 breaker bar -600mm 5 torque wrench Assuming you have at least 2 sets of sockets, one small sizes and one large, that would be my list. Don't be tempted to buy cheap. Halfords professional/advanced range is great for the money and they do half price sales on a regular basis.

I don't think I have brought a bike for over a year. I must be due!
  8. What a great project.

Better late than never. I got my first 2 stroke in 1976. My 2 stroke lineup.
  10. A note to all keep an eye on the prices. Be careful of being under insured. £2k would never buy your TDR Jason.
  11. Well RD1 has developed an oil leak and a 3k idle. I suspect it is the L/H crank seal. I will check everything first but it looks like the engine will be coming out soon and be split . Pics and commentary to follow. On a better note I had a call the other week from the previous owner. When I brought the bike he said he had a wad of paperwork that he couldn't find. He called to say he had found it and was going to post it to me. It arrived a few days later. Really pleased, loads of junk in there including all MOT's going back to 2000. I need a couple of days to clean up the workshop and test to make sure that nothing has rattled loose or tight but there may be lots of pics to follow if the engine needs to come out.
  12. I dont know much about them but If it is the temp light then the are 3 water things to check, water pump, termostat and air lock. Timing and lack of 2 stroke oil can also cause overheating. Got to agree with Blackhat, you will kill a 2 stroke if it gets too hot.

    Passed!

Well done. Good weather forecast for next week too so enjoy!!!
  14. Which light comes on?
  15. My preferred technique for these situations is to shut my eyes and administer more right hand. I tend to ride most of my journeys now with my eyes shut.

    Saddle sore

I did Marseille in France to Essex through the night once. About 800 miles left Marseille at 4pm and was in Essex at 6am. That was on a GSXR and I didn't ride it for a week or so after. 100 miles non stop or 200 to 300 miles a day is enough for me nowadays. Any more and it isn't enjoyable.
  17. I work for the NHS, what did you expect Two grand on the TDR? That has to be very underinsured.
  18. And you will get arrested by the Eco police for light pollution. It does look nice though!
  19. The breakdown cover was quoted at £50. I didn't take it up. One RD and the TS have it, the car has it (I have ordered another one last week anyway). And I have a 10 mile recovery with a bank account perk thing. The RD and TS insurance is up in August and I may just get breakdown cover to cover all bikes. Better to have one policy that covers everything than half a dozen policies that I have to keep paperwork on.
  20. No, nor FBI insurance. Joking aside, I haven't but I will have a look in August when another 2 policies are due. Cheers Jason.
  21. Well there was no further posts required on this at the time however; the FZ insurance is due at the beginning of May. I got an email the other day from a compare site with quotes for the FZ. Not bad prices, at the lower end, but one thing they do is keep leaving enquiries on my credit report. I don't want credit from them and it P'eed me off. I didn't update any details, they just sent the email. My present FZ policy is with Swintons. I also have 2 of the classic bikes insured with with Bikesure and the other bikes just sat in the workshop. Annoyed with the compare sites intrusion I got a quote from Bennett's. This was very good however; I discovered that they are part of the same group as a compare site so no business for them. I called Swintons to see what they could do this year. £214, I don't think so. I called Bikesure. After a quick chat the quote was a couple of quid more than Bennetts so I decided that I would get the FZ onto a Bikesure policy too. Come 5th May Bikesure will host policies for 3 of my bikes. Thanks to Josh at Bikesure for the great customer service. He had to call me back as I couldn't finalise the policy owning to the fact that I didn't know what the FZ reg was. All done now.
  22. Hi and welcome to the forum.
  23. We all are spluttery and misfire when we get to that age. I agree with the other comments about fuel in a cylinder on the sidestand.
  24. Ride normally but make sure they can see your helmet move when you use your mirrors.
