  1. If water can get in or is trapped in the gauge then during the cold weather it will keep doing this. That is why it needs to be put somewhere warm. During the summer you could just pull a bulb out and let it dry naturally but at this time of the year you will need to purge any damp from inside the gauge first.
  2. Damp. This will cause condensation when the gauge gets cold. In my opinion I would take the gauge off, into the airing cupboard overnight and then back on the bike. Make sure the rubber that holds the bulbs are seated properly or damp will get in again.
  3. Can people please stop posting workshop questions in the Bar. Use one of the correct sections which can be found here LINKY. Topic locked.
  4. That is a very clean and tidy desk area. At least I know where my insurance premium is being spent now
  5. I hope you measured any rim offset too before de-lacing it!

    Metal sheds etc

You can get some wooden sheds that fit through a standard doorway if you don't have a side entrance. Not all wooden sheds do.
  7. I don't know what area the permit is for but some councils allow you to buy a permit but not have to display it. I would check if it needs to be displayed first. It is always a good question to ask the council how you are supposed to display it and what happens if it gets stolen. With all the high tech stuff around, checking your number plate against a permit database should be easy, but councils don't think of that, most would just want to fine you for non display and charge you for a duplicate.
  8. Trial and error. A foam type filter should let more air into the carb which will make the mixture lean and increase the risk of a seizure. To compensate for this you need to increase the flow of fuel. To do this you increase the size of the jets in the carb and consider allowing more fuel through the needle (midrange). Open the carb and see what jet sizes you have in the main and pilot jets. Buy some bigger ones, it is best if you buy a range but 20 up on the main jet and 2.5 on the pilot would be a good starting point. Also move the needle circlip one notch down the needle (towards the pointy end). Fit the carb back on and attach the filter and start it up. Use a new spark plug. See how it idles and adjust this then see how it rides, taking care and only a very short journey. When riding, and safe to do so, cut the engine using the kill switch and pull in somewhere safe. Take the plug out - bearing in mind it will be hot - and see what the plug looks like for colour. Using the plug colour and how the bike pulls identify if you need to change the jets to a slightly bigger or smaller size. During this you run a higher risk of seizure so slowly does it. The main affects the top end, the needle midrange and the pilot the tickover. That is about it.

    Metal sheds etc

Condensation is the biggest problem with them.
  10. You can post the barrel off but someone needs to take it off. You need to see if there is anything broken off the piston or rings first as bits may have dropped into the crank area and these will get into the bearings. Is it road legal? If it is, and it has sat in your garden for a while, I might know someone who is interested.
  11. I sure someone on the forum can. My help is to suggest that you post a hello in the new members section and then post the question in the workshop section. This will get you a much better response from the members here. Topic locked. Posted in the wrong section.
  12. These people will rebore and supply a RM250 piston kit for under £100. LINKY
  13. That shouldn't be a worry, it sounds like he will be single soon
  14. It's just getting the time at the moment to do anything. I have been working on the house on and off for the last 6 months. Had the utility/dining area/passageway stripped back to the brickworks and re-insulated and skimmed (single skin), just finished the bathroom but the main hallway is next and I intend to gut the kitchen after that; take it back to just the plaster walls and fit a complete new kitchen. The living room and conservatory will be the next 2 projects. I still haven't sorted out a decent man cave in the garden but the plan is to put a smallish (6x6) shed out there for the lawn mower, decorating gear and stuff and a 16x10 as a workshop. I will need to level the big shed base a little but that is the easy part. I have 2x £6 million projects on the go at work plus 20 smaller projects and minor works. I haven't done anything on any of the bikes. The YA is still semi stripped, the RD hasn't been touched since I got it running just before squires and the TS hasn't been touched since I got back from squires. Sold the SV though!
  15. Only one Suzi now but two yami's at the moment john.
  16. About £100 for a rebore, piston, rings and gaskets. About £25 for just a rebore.
  17. Let it cool. Top end off, as John said, and see how bad it is. don't just cool it and try and start it - but I know you wouldn't do that kev, would you!!
  18. Moved to the workshop section Kev.
  19. No problem in my opinion. Just put it in the right section please.
