  1. Yellow is my favourite too. Both of mine are yellow. The latest one has gold alloys on it. Pictures coming this evening.
  2. Silver and then red I think or the other way around. It is now yellow as yellow ones are the fastest It sounded awesome last night so as well as some photos I will try and throw a video up later when I am not at work. It is on a T plate and is the 400D model the same as my other one. Less than 17k miles showing but who knows if that is accurate or not! It does not have matching frame and engine numbers but I am not fussed about that.

It is possible. Does the chain move freely? With the bike on the centerstand, can you jiggle the rear wheel while pushing the gear lever to engage a gear?
  4. Oh, it has hagon shocks on it too!
  5. Anyone following the thread "to squires or not to squires" will have read that i had potentially brought another RD. I got home on saturday afternoon and just looked on fleabay for a couple of minutes and saw a RD for sale with a few minutes left to go on the auction. I had a punt and won it. I tried to make contact with the seller but texts were not answered and when I called he was always busy, promised to call me back, but didnt. I was starting to get a bad feeling! The bike was an impulse buy, I coudnt check the history as the number plate was covered and there was not a lot of information in the description. I got a call from the seller at about half six last night saying he could drop the bike off that evening but wouldnt expect to get to mine until about 11pm. This was ok for me but i had to get the cash together so i emptied the local ATM's. I got the reg number off the guy and did a vehicle check, apart from a couple of colour changes, it is clear. The guy wheels and deals a little with bikes but this is his RD and he has owned it for about 4 years. The guy turns up with the bike a little after 11. I check the paperwork and it is all fine. The engine has been rebuilt and not run in. We get the bike off the van and he decides to start it (about 11:30), it starts and runs lovely after a couple of kicks. The paperwork and information on the interweb agree that the bike was taxed until the end of September last year and it was MOT'ed until the beginning of October last year. He said he gets no time to ride it and just SORN'ed it when the MOT ran out. The interweb confirms this too. There are 2 keys and both fit all locks. Completely standard trim except for braided hoses. I would describe the bike as unmolested with general wear but i havent seen it in the light yet! Unless when I check it over I find somthing nasty, I think I got a bargain. So 2 RD400's in the stable now. I will throw some photos up later. Very, very happy at the moment.
  6. I would be careful with redex. It clears any residue film and can lead to rings letting oil past them making the engine smoky.
  7. Not bad for early Jan. That must have been early afternoon. I left at close to 2pm and it gets dark around 4 so i must just have missed you.
  8. I make that about 92 miles per gallon. Some of us only get 90 miles to a tank. Cynics TDR does consideribly less than that.
  9. You really need to sit on the naughty step for this Andrew. The problem is, most of us have done it. You need to adopt the philosophy of; if you grease it short term, you wont feel the pain long term.
  10. Hard to tell from the pictures but it does look like you can see some old honing marks. I wouldnt hone unless i had all the equipment to hand.
  11. Great stuff. I had a SLR650 a while ago. Great thumper but ran out of puff at about 70 and anything above that buffered me too much. I think it had a 100mm piston, or thereabouts, in it so 4 inches across in old money.
  12. The other half is a good one Tommy, and stunning looking too - I have had a right result.

No offence taken by me, it just made me laugh. Now you have the head off it sounds like yhe rings are seized. The head and barrel are held on with the same 4 rods so put the bike in 3rd gear and push it a small amount to see if the barrel lifts off the engine cases. Not too much. If it does then it is a top end only issue and plusgas and or a little heat from a paint stripping gun should free it up. Heat straight down the bore onto the piston and spray around the rings, again, straight down the piston. Be careful that you dont set anything alight.
  14. Another workshop question in the New Members Section. Topic locked.
  15. I would say the same as above Andrew. Glad you are OK though!
  16. What I did notice for the first time today is that there is a hotel a mile or so away. LINKY It was too cold last year (I know it was later in the year).
  17. Moved from the New Members Section.
  18. It depends on too many variables. Rider weight Roads ridden Traffic The way the rider, rides Etc.
  19. No sausage, Kev ate it and they put the place up for sale. A dozen or so bikers there when I left. It was 2 degrees when I got there (according to the car).

    Frame paint ??

I recommend Hammerite black smooth rattle cans.
  21. Hello from a freezing squires. I will pop up a picture when I get home. I have asked the guy here about the 2 stroke rally this year and he said that they haven't got back to him yet but he expects it to still be on this year. It still leaves the debate open as per the original question - to squires or not to squires? Not much camping going on here right now!!
  22. The ACRD rally is in Derby (rugby club) and, if it is Squires again this year, a few of us meet on the way so you won't need to ride up alone. I am in Loughborough so not too far from you.
  23. Hi John. Yep, that's the Whitby bike. Were you watching to buy or just out of interest? I hadn't seen it and just came across it with a few minutes to go. So no 5 day auction nerves just bid and buy. As I say, I haven't seen it but if it is half decent then I think I did OK. Oh and I haven't won the lottery, sorry to say. She's not my wife at the moment but she will be in the future.
