    OH BO**OCKS!!!

I was emptying a 2 stroke tank a few weeks ago, put a bottle on the end of the pipe to take the oil, got distracted and the bottle overflowed until the tank was empty. Ended up with a lot of oil on the floor. After a newspaper clean up I scrubbed the floor with gunk. Came up very nice, thank you. Bl00dy messy to clear up though.
  2. My 1965 Yamaha YA-6 has both the side and main stands. I don't know much about British iron but I thought bikes went from mainly main stands to mainly side stands and then a little of both. Back in the early seventies my first bike was side stand only and my next was both - I think - but it was a long time ago now.
  3. Hi and welcome to the forum. What part of Essex are you from? I lived in both Romford and Harlow/Epping and still have family near Southend.
  4. They are actually side stands. Well they were when I started riding.
  5. Too true. As for the points of smells and train noise, I smell and snore so if people camp next to me I will mask both of these issues. Well, what are friends for eh
  6. Perforated RST leather I guess similar to ttaskie. Once on the bike it works well. Hood Kevlar jeans. Alpinestar boots and gloves and AGV helmet. Jeans and jacket swapped for alpinestar gortex winter stuff when cold. If there wasn't a stand on the left, the bike would fall over.
  7. I had a successful bid over the weekend for a 400C seat from the land down under. The guy brought it from the States as it was advertised as a 350 seat. When he got it it was not for the 350 and he thought it was a 400C one. It arrived today after being posted on Monday. It has traveled from the USA, via Australia, to the UK. I have a quality cover for it given to me by Paul Dawkins. RD400-2 as it stands today.
  8. Drewpy beat me to the workshop advice. The second part still applies.
  9. Hi and welcome to the forum. You need to be posting the workshop question in the workshop section but it sound like you have got water in the electrics. Something is either earthing out or the starter relay is damp or now knackered. It may clear with the temperature at the moment. A good run on it would help but I wouldn't risk stopping until you got back home. It should still start with a push.
  10. I didn't learn on a Yamaha either. My first 2 bikes were Suzukis. I learnt to ride the first one when I collected it from the shop.
  11. Hi and welcome to the forum.
  12. I didn't intend to buy it but I might have looked at it in Tescos. I won't bother now.
  13. It depends what you want to do. Just because people think it is a bad idea it doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, it just means you are better informed. Radically changing many of the main parts of the bike will mean that you may have to SVA it and it will be re-registered on a Q plate. Main parts in life frame, engine, forks etc. normally changing one is fine. I can't remember at the moment what point it goes from being ok to having to get a SVA. Next you have insurance. All modifications have to be advised to them whether Q plated or not. On a SR I would go bobber. Single seat with a floating rear and drag bars. It would be cheaper to get a whole, working, bike and get the angle grinder out than start with just a frame.
  14. Russian spares? Rather you than me.
  15. Old rear wheel on Old rear wheel off New rear wheel is on with new bearings, seals, locking tabs etc. Battery box and new air filter in.
  16. Hi and welcome to the forum.
  17. This should be in the workshop section. No oily bits bits or overalls are allowed in the bar. It won't come off the seats.
  18. Sounds like the needle jet, float height or floats in the carb. If the jet is worn then it lets fuel bypass it, it the float height is wrong then it shuts the fuel off too late, if the float has a hole in it - the same as the float height issue really. The heat won't help but the carb needs to be set up right, not just cleaned. Welcome to the forum.
  19. I don't have a clue of which part you are talking about. I did learn something about the DT175 today though. It has a reverse switch LINKY. PS: Before anyone tells me it is not a reverse switch, I already know that.
  20. Hi and welcome to the forum. It has been very hot in Nottingham (and Leicestershire) today.
  21. Have you got the correct oil and oil quantity in the bike - motorcycle oil, not car oil. Is your chain too tight? Possible the clutch needs adjusting or changing. These are the 3 easiest and cheapest to check.
  22. Probably the woodruff key has not been put back in after the rebuild or it has sheared. It is a small piece of metal that fits into a slot in the crankshaft.
