  1. I was going through some pc files yesterday and came across some old pics of great biking times so I thought let's start a thread on it. Below is a picture of me a good few years ago whilst touring France with a couple of mates. We were heading into Switzerland and came across a fantastic piece of road about 3 miles long with loads of bend and uphill. We were laden with panniers and tents but we stopped at the top of the road we were grinning from ear to ear. Someone said how good it would have been to ride it unladen. We dumped all of our stuff in a layby and spent the next Hour or so riding up and down the raod and taking pictures. Our stuff was still there when we got back. The bike is a CBX550 with a Motad exhaust from Hagons. Not really a scratching bike but all I had at the time. Anyone else got any pics???
  2. Cheers Cynic, I do not have any parts of this. I have managed to get a chain guide and guard but the whole chain tensioner assembly is missing. I have just PM'ed you. Thanks
  3. Hi OG / Cynic, Because I am looking at speedos and rev counter options. Not the V expensive original ones on hbay at the moment but electronic or mechanical universal ones. I am reliably informed that 21 and 16 inch wheels use the 2240:60 speedo ratio and these are available however I would not want to get one unless I can get the speedo cable in the back and would hope to use a standard DT cable for when I get my hands on an original one. The same goes for the rev counter. There are different ratios and, although, they say that the cable fitting is "universal" I was going to check first This kind of thing That would only leave me to change the bulbs to 6v The electric ones are limited due to the 6v on the bike and I do not really want a halfords £5 one. I am trying to get all the parts I need to get the bike up and down the road at least before the summer ends - I hope!! I still need new chain and sprockets, headlight, horn, l/h switch gear, battery, Chain tensioner, road tyres, speedo (of course) MOT, tax, insurance. Most I can get but the chain tensioner may have to be new, the headlight and speedo may have to be universal ones at the moment.
  4. Does anyone know what the speedo cable fitting size is, where the cable bolts to the bottom of the speedo? Is it an M12? Ta!!
  5. One for the oil from the oil tank to the pump (larger one), one from the oil pump to the carb (thinner one). Search the forum for info. Try Here first for the first info.
  6. Now that is funny. Is it going to take a week because she is 600 pounds and that is how long it takes to order the crane? All you need to know on the UK MP's thieving - so far!!!! Here Thieving b**tards.
  7. It sounds like the petrol tap. Take it off the tank and take it apart to give it a good clean. I would use carb cleaner to clean it. I would guess that the top net filter (used when on main fuel) is blocked and the lower net filter (used for reserve) is clearer. You can get a repair kit for these in case you want to referb the whole unit and the net filters are still available new.
  8. Lucky there was no giant sausage with cheese on the menu.
  9. Thanks Cynic, I still like the Distanzia's but understand the boots comment. I agree that it would not look good as a supermoto. Cheers.

Indeed an honour. I am touching my forelock. Albeit receding It is quite a good likeness and the copy was just what I was thinking when I made it.
  11. Good morning all, Have any of you any thoughts or experience on tyre selections for a DT175? On road use only, obviously tubed. I am leaning towards Avon Distanzia AM43/44's (Sizes 80/90-21 48S and 4.10-18 60S) but Dunlop Trailmax D604 also look OK. I am guessing that these are both tube and non tube types as, From memory I thought that you can not use tubes in tubeless tyres as the inside of the tyre is rough and tears the tubes. Thanks.

  13. Ouch! Mind you I am a West Ham fan so what do I know about football?
  14. The theory was heat then cold from the minus degrees co2 confusses the dent so it pops out. A bit like childbirth I guess. I will fill it I think. Cheers though!
  15. Enough of your DIY dentistry skills Drewps!!
  16. Thanks WF. The tank on the bike is better with no creases or dents but this came along as part of a bundle of stuff and it would be a shame to waste it. Cheers.
  17. A youngest Son askes his dad "What is the difference between Potentially and reality? His Dad replies "I will explain it to you." The Dad turns to his wife and asks her, "Would you sleep with Robert Redford for 1 million Pounds?" The Wife replies "Yes, off course! I would never waste such an opportunity!" The Dad asks his daughter "Would you sleep with Brad Pitt for 1 million Pounds?" The Daughter replies "Wow! Yes! That is my fantasy!" Dad turns to his eldest son and asks him "Would you sleep with Tom Cruise for 1 million Pounds?" The Eldest son replies "Yeah! Why not? Imagine what I could do with 1 million Pounds!" So the father turns back to his younger son and says "You see son, 'potentially' we are sitting on 3 million Pounds. But in 'reality' we are living with two hookers and a Bi guy!"
  18. Ok the first thing is to get your photos on the web somewhere. They will not work if they are just on your pc. you need to upload them using a site like photobucket where they can be viewed. So open a photobucket account and follow the instructions there to get a single picture on that you can view online but not via this site. Once you have done that come back if that is Ok?
  19. Hi Mike, Firstly you need somewhere on the web to host your pictures. If you have your own web space, great. If not you will need to join a free one like photobucket.com. You put your pictures on photobucket and then link to them using the Insert image logo at the top of where you type in your posts. you then add the pictures to your post by putting in the web address something like http://www.photobucket.com/blah/xxx.jpg It sounds harder than it is. Get the photobucket thing sorted and your pictures on there and come back and ask again.
  20. Hi Drewps, Pic's below. The biggest is about 3 inches long. The pictures make it look worse and bigger than it is. Cheers
  21. I don't know. I have not read the tin.
  22. Hi all, I have picked up another petrol tank for the DT. Generally it is in great condition but it has a small crease at the top righthand side. At the moment I am considering 3 options. (Apart from waiting for a better tank to come along) 1 Fill it 2 put a self taper in to pull out what I can, then fill the rest. (I know heat, sparks and fuel do not mix) or glue something to the crease with epoxy and then try and pull it. 3 Try the heat it and then spray co2 or rub with dry ice. I can't plunger it out or beat it out and I would be worried about pressurising the tank given it is old. Has anyone got a better method or advice please? I am not worried about the paint Cheers
