Yamaha DT oil spitting out the exhaust!! Please help!
I have to agree with cynic and airhead. If the bike has Been used for a lot of short runs or left idling for a while, 2 stroke oil will build up in the exhaust. The exhaust needs to burn any junk left in it so some long runs would be good once you have checked that the oil pump is set and working correctly.

Yamaha DT oil spitting out the exhaust!! Please help!
This should be in the workshop section The bike is a 2 stroke. I would be more worried if there was no oil coming from the exhaust. 2 stroke oil gets burnt with the fuel and comes out the end of the exhaust. You are filling up the 2 stroke oil tank, aren't you?

~~Daily Feed, post what made you laugh today ~~
On Sky News this morning: "Back in 1611, Johannes Kepler said that the most efficient way to stack spheres such as oranges and melons was in a pyramid formation. Now, 403 years later, academics have finally confirmed that his theory is correct. Professor Thomas Hales from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, thought he had cracked the problem back in 1998. A 300-page proof was developed, which took 12 reviewers four years to check for errors. But even then, it could only prove the theory was 99% correct. So, in 2003, he began to create a computational tool to check the proof beyond all doubt. Called the Flyspeck project, it uses two pieces of formal verification software. Given enough time, it can check the logic of complex mathematical theories. This week, Prof Hales and his team announced that his 1998 proof had been scrutinised by the software, and proven correct. He told New Scientist: "I suddenly feel 10 years younger.""

New bike... Almost
Get to the shop and tell them to stop tinkering. It will be harder to diagnose the fault. Nice looking box. I have a jar that is supposed to count the change as it goes in. It misses coins so I leave the lid off it.
-
New bike... Almost
True. I would guess that the intermittent fault is a lose/frayed wire or connector in the headlight or steering area.

New bike... Almost
I would see exactly what is wrong with the low mileage one. Swaping parts is a good idea because it cost nothing. Then assess what it would cost to get the high mileage one running again and flog it. Slice - I wouldn't go for the Duke. I love them but a service and new belts are going to be £300 and you then have a rough one and still £800 spent.

2 Stroke gathering and YOC camping weekend 2014
Very true Tommy! We used to go to Southend (40 miles each way) in the evenings with enough money for a bag of chips. No plan B, didn't actually think we needed one. I broke down once but often used to have to share fuel between bikes when one of us ran out of petrol. All that on a 90cc single to start and then the 250 twin.

Full bike test
Similar old style bike test was read a number plate you had just walked past, Answer a couple of questions on road signs and ride around the block a few times - mainly out of sight of the examiner. 1 emergency stop. That was it, 125 to R1 in 20 minutes. They then brought out Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) before riding alone and then have just added to it. I used to teach CBT and there was a story going around that on day a guy on his test was riding around the block. He jumped a pedestrian crossing red signal, got stopped by the police and nicked for the traffic offence. When he reappeared he got pulled in by the examiner who asked him why he had taken so long to go around the block. He said the lights were stuck on red and he didn't want to jump them but the police turned up and waved the traffic through. He passed. This was supposed to have been found out because the examiner and the policeman knew each other socially. It may just be an urban myth!! As for cost, I don't have a clue but I hear figures of £800 to £1000 a lot of the time. That about CAD$1500-$1800

2 Stroke gathering and YOC camping weekend 2014
What about: Lassie Oldtimer FZRal When did things change though? I cant remember riding around as a youth listening to the engine, worrying about the crank seals or debating what was the best oil/plug/timing/airfilter etc. The bikes got no maintenance until they broke.

Full bike test
Why make it simple when you can really complicate things? The politicians mantra of today. Back in the day it was; up to 250cc on L plates, any bike on a full licence. It then went to; up to 125cc on L plates, any bike on a full licence. Now it has gone to the link I posted earlier.

FJ1200 is puffing!
Are the carbs balanced correctly? Is one exhaust pumping out more pressure than the other ( palm of your hand near the end of the exhaust). If it is chuff, chuffing all the time you could always paint it in Thomas the Tank Engine colours!

classic (70s) DT175 port pictures/port map
Put the whole engine in a container of diesel for a week or two. You will need to strip the engine and see what is serviceable but it often frees up seized part so diss assembly is possible.
