Hi and welcome to the forum. Loads of middle aged and old blokes on here so you are in good(ish) company. L plates are like a red rag to a lot of drivers so get rid of them as legally quickly as you can. Confidence comes with experience and riding all year round. I do have to say that your timing to start riding isn't the best as winter is here but it will hold you in good stead. There is only 20 days to the shortest day and then the nights will get shorter. As for techniques, develop your own. Do make sure cars overtake you and don't force you into the curb but that is easier said than done on a small bike in the wet. If in doubt, slow down slowly until the idiot has passed. Don't grab anything too hard, especially in the wet. Look 2 to 3 time further ahead than you would in a car and expect everyone else to attempt to kill surprise you. It comes naturally after a while. Enjoy the grin on your face and the buzz you will get after a good ride. I still regularly want to ride a few extra miles when I have arrived at work in the mornings and I am year 36/37 of riding. I would be more worried about second gear. A lot of these pop out of second, it's a common fault.

I haven't but it will alter your speedo accuracy, change the steering characteristics (steer slower) and you should tell your insurers.

Is the gear ratio/box the same for 125/175mx - I am not sure but an expert should appear soon If the seals are gone is it detrimental to the engine ? - Yes. Re-read Blackhats post If you are going to split the engine it is pointless not changing the seals unless you know they are OK. Just a waste of gaskets, oil and time.

Hi Blackhat, A50 to the M1/A6 and down the A6 a bit. Not too many miles from Uttoxeter but the other side of the M1. The A50 is a great road for me to get to the M6 to head North - Glasgow side.

Easy to do but it depends if you are just doing the top end or a complete strip down.

The oil has to be a compromise between lubing and getting through the oil channels. They know more than me so if they say 10/40, I buy 10/40. They did spec oils differently for different markets so if you were in the tropics you would have one range and if you were in the Arctic they would recommend a different range. I don't know if they do that anymore.

Different bikes, different size plugs. A clue to what bike it is may help you buy the right one. Most socket sets have one but the size and the type are different depending on access to the plug. My SV has an articulated plug spanner otherwise I wouldn't be able to change the front plug without taking the radiator off. What bike is it????

As well as drying out the spark plug as OG mentioned, a lot of bikes have a starting characteristic. I don't mean all xxx250's have to be started a particular way but each bike seems to know what it likes to start up easily. Being fuel injected, it means that a choke position is not a consideration. When you start it do you turn the throttle during or before pushing the starter button? I would turn the bike on and push the starter, no throttle at all. if that doesnt work move to a small amount of throttle held in one position, not twisting and I mean small; then I would try full throttle and push the button. The bike should start and idle with no throttle at all to start with but the plug(s) may need a clean first.
