  1. Neither. They both have ape hangers. You need drag bars. Big fat ones.
  2. Don't get me started on the EU!
  3. I suppose I will have to come clean and admit I am not banged up, nor ever have been. I thought it was funny. We do get visitors from HMP Nottingham at work. Normally shackled to one or two guards.
  4. No riding 'til tomorrow for me. Saw Ice age 3, 3D, this morning with a HUGE hotdog and coffee and lots of bike parts spraying this PM.
  5. Just my speedo's and flip flops. For that distance I would use the car but as Cynic really. Keep looking at kevlar jeans but haven't go round to it yet.
  6. Wooooo, feeling stalked. I replied to your intro post and mentioned I lived in Stratford. Also worked in "the cross" and "the abbey" when I lived in Harlow (Top end of the crooked mile, next to Jacks Hatch). 'tis a small world.
  7. Hi and welcome to the forum. I am originally a Londoner and used to live in Stratford. Chinese bikes do have a bad reputation but a lot of bike for the money and spares are cheap. I have never owned one though.
  8. Hi and welcome to the forum Matt. Best to post the woes in the workshop. Start a new thread. There have been quite a few SR owners on here recently. If you have the Yamaha service manual you are better off than just having the Haynes one - assuming you mean the service and not the owners manual. The clutch cable and clutch are easy to do but you need some decent tools. The carb sounds as though it could do with stripping but get that thread started in the workshop and I am sure you will get some help.
  9. We are spread out on the forum and live all over the world. There are a few of us that meet up from time to time. It helps to fill in your profile as people will know more about you and what you like. Being in the West midlands there are some events. There is one in stoke tomorrow I think. It also depends on how far you want to ride. Have a look here LINKY to see what is current and possibly start a new thread in that section to give people a "call out". I am in the East Midlands myself. I have been lucky to meet up with a few great guys on here and have also met up.yours
  10. Whilst it does not answer any of your questions, can I politely point you to this thread.
  11. A cryptic question to start with. Make sure they don't affect the wheel balancing.
  12. I really hope so John. Great pics and looked like a good tour that Pat posted. I will get some painting done tomorrow hopefully. Indicators - on their way. Worked out all of the lights - fronts all working Got a patten tail light for it - on tomorrow Tested the horn connections with a tester - works on the button The rectifier gets really hot but not fitted the battery properly as I need to do some work on the battery box. The seat is shot but I have a plan A few other bits to get, and of course, the wheels. You lucky............................... . If you decide it is not for you, Give me first refusal please. If it is the banna shaped exhaust one, parts are very easy to come by. If it is the same shape as mine then good luck and very deep pockects will be required. A lot of stuff will be the same as mine and the ER. I think the 76 only had a Nicosil barrel. It only lasted for this year but is interchangeable with later ones (incuding the ER). A lot of ER stuff fits as does the 185's BUT a lot doesn't!! A lot of stuff shared with the GT's (all) and X5/7's Be aware that there are loads of parts you will struggle to find. I have a shed full of spares but some are too rare to share. I have a couple of original manuals but they are very basic and the haynes one isn't worth getting. Although I have had this one for about 18 months, I actually haven't ridden it.
  13. Latest update. Forks on. Headlamp shell on. Axles and chain adjusters on ready for the wheels. Electrics started.
  14. Very interesting Nev. I don't think it is for me although there would be cash to be made in doing this for some custom bikes. I am still undecided. I can get a high level colour coded plastic mudguard for £40 delivered and an OEM chrome cable holder for £20 These were fitted to the USA and late models. I can't even find a picture of my model with the wheel wrap around mudguard, but they were fitted to them. The M/guard does make the model look dated so I guess that everyone wanted a high level one to give the bike that "modern" feel. There was a dented NOS one on ebay a while ago for £200.
  15. For the overheating I would check: Timing Valve clearances Oil pump performance, oil pipes for blockages. Oil filters/strainers for blockages. Carb rubbers See it you can stop the leak by pinching the bolts up (a little tightening). If not then it is a new gasket.
  16. Hi and welcome to the forum Mick.
  17. Tubless valves are normally pulled in from the inside to the outside, so no. A decent tyre fitter could remove the tyres, change the valves and repace the tyres but it would be a relatively high cost for what you would get.
  18. Hi Pat. Great pics in the other thread on the Scotland tour. It was the TW301 front and TW302 rear that I specified but he said he could only get the front. They are advertised on the web but the place is 40 miles each way so have gone for something else. I just want to pick them up shod.
  19. This was in the UK press the other day. I know how he feels!
  20. Not good but glad to hear you are OK. Check your bike over properly. Even a slight mark can be an insurance claim and a claim against him may make him drive with his eyes open. The next biker may not be so lucky!
