  1. To calculate a non restricted bike do the following. Check the bike has a minimum engine size of 395cc Check the BHP is between 33 Bhp and 46.6 Bhp Find the BHP and convert this to KW. To do this multiply the BHP by .75 so basically it is 3/4 of the BHP Find the weight of the bike in KG Divide the bike weight by the KW. This should be .2 or under. Example. ( these are rough calculations) DRZ400 BHP 39 Weight 133KG Engine size 398cc KW - 39 X 0.75 = 29.25 Power to weight - 29.25 / 133 = 0.2199 So it passes on the engine size (over 395cc) It passes on the KW ( Max 35KW) It fails on the power to weight (0.2 or under) With a slight restriction and certificate, it would pass.
  2. I think you will find that Hitler tried that in 1939. The faster we are out of Europe the better.
  3. Extra tax money safety. Once Brussels starts interfering again we might have to all give up.
  4. Yep, I missed that bit. And each license is separate so if you take a moped test first and step up when you can you will need to do 4 tests now.

Hi and welcome to the forum Mikey. Post a help thread in the workshop.
  7. But I think that an A2 includes A1 but not A. So a A1 pass gives you A1 bikes to ride. Over 17 YOA. An A2 pass gives you A1 and A2 bikes to ride. Over 19 YOA. And a A pass gives you everything. Over 24 YOA. Does that even make sense. So if you are 16 to 17 it is mopeds only You cant ride anything bigger than a 125 until you are 19 or over and you cant get a non restricted license until you are 24.

Hi and welcome to the forum Haley.
  9. Another interesting point; Automatic and semi-automatic motorcycles If you pass your test on a motorcycle with automatic or semi-automatic transmission you’ll only get a full licence for those types of motorcycle. So if you pass on a "wind up and go", you can't ride a manual bike with gears.
  10. min 395cc - between 33 Bhp and 46.6 Bhp power to weight ratio is set at a maximum of 0.2 Kw/Kg The "mid" license is a A2 LINKY
  11. The trailie market seems a bit strange to me. I love them (but have little leg syndrome). The modern ones seem to fit into 2 categories for me. 1) much too tall b4lls out 2 stroke screamers 2) just a little underpowered 4 strokers I had a XT350 which was really slow, a SLR650 which was fine but I just needed a little more power but OK up to 70 and I do like the XT660's but have never ridden one.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
  14. No worries. Given your age, I agree with 2wheels. Do the new "A" category test (600cc plus motorcycle that produces at least 53.6 Bhp) and never worry about it again. It is only going to get harder and more expensive. I can't remember the cost of the test back when I took it but I seem to remember that my car lessons were £2.75 each.
  15. It was snowing the last time I went there. It still would make my top 2 short haul trips. Inverness was freezing.
  16. I am losing the will to live.....................................
  17. age from 19 January 2013 Sub-category used for module 1 before 19 January 2013 Sub-category used for module 2 after 19 January 2013 16 or over P AM 17 or over A1 A1 17 or over A2 A1 23 or under A A2 24 or over A A
  18. I don't know. I would suggest that it is down to the test you book and that the ages are minimums.

I have posted what I think the changes are in this thread
  20. Here is the full spec. I think from Jan 2013 in the UK Age 17 or 18 From 19th January 2013. You can take your test now on a 125cc and that's what you are limited to until the age of 19, when you can train and take another test if you choose - otherwise restricted permanently to 125cc. There is no automatic progression! Age 19 to 23 From 19th January 2013. You may take your test now on a 400cc or restricted bike (min 395cc - between 33 Bhp and 46.6 Bhp). When you pass then you can ride a restricted motorcycle producing no more than 46.6 Bhp Eg. older Kawasaki ER500 or a middleweight bike that has been professionally restricted. NOT however large bikes that originally produce more than 92 Bhp - this means pretty much everything over 600cc is excluded from you that is a modern sports bike or sports tourer. Also the power to weight ratio is set at a maximum of 0.2 Kw/Kg - this means light or smaller cc sports bikes are not allowed too. Now wait 2 years or until you are 24 when you can train and take another test if you choose. There is no automatic progression! Age 24 or older From 19th January 2013 you may take training and pass your test on a 600cc plus motorcycle that produces at least 53.6 Bhp (much more powerful than the minimum today). Pass your test on this and you have a licence for any motorcycle, any size, any power.
