  1. My present insurer sent me a renewal notice with a £100 increase on what I paid last year, got few quotes, Carole Nash came in at less than I paid last year, for both bikes. I fail to understand the logic behind vastly increased premiums without any justification, it just loses them business
  2. Cant help but think the nations gone a bit soft. First sign of snow an all the schools shut. I dont recall this much fuss back in the 50s an 60s, when snowfalls were far greater and lasted longer, but I guess the amount of vehicle miles travelled now makes a major contribution to the crisis as there is much more focus on roads. Not been on the bikes since Monday, its not the cold, its the ice thats the problem
  3. I think thats the best course of action. Get to know the bike first before riding in shite weather, assume all other road users are morons. Good luck with the bike
  4. Spot on Self perpetuating, unelected civil servants with a bottomless pit of (taxpayers) money to draw, constantly creating new initiatives to justify their existence
  5. Jeeez Rucksacks are gay Saddlebags are gay this bikes gay your bikes gay my bikes the best your bikes crap self opinionated twaddle
  6. I assumed some common sense would apply, as I made it clear that the springs provide the required support on the photo of the virago, and prevent the bags from contacting the wheel. I'm sure I also pointed out that should there be no support provided by the springs, then you require supports, as indicated on the dragstar photo
  7. Soooo, who'se advised you to ride without supports then?
  8. The ones on now are deeper, so hang further down towards the pipes, and so are kept from the wheel by the springs On this photo, the bags are located further back, so supports were needed to keep the bags from the wheel
  9. You could have the bags lower by adjusting the lace. This is an old piccy, these bags are no longer on the bike. no supports reqd.
  10. Cram as much in as you can while youth is on your side, and you still have the freedom to be spontaneous, without being burdened with responsibilities for others
  11. I dont seem able to paste the photo, Ill try again later
  12. Saddlebags on a Virago, no support bars reqd, each bag has a flap attached, the flaps overlap each other and are laced together. The seat is lifted off, the tied flaps placed over the rear fender, seat refitted, job done. The forward slope of the bags means that the rear springs keep the bags off the tyre. Just shop around
  13. Hi Kelum I recall running out of fuel on the XVS dragstar once, turned the fuel tap to PRI, cranked the engine over and as soon as it fired, switched onto reserve. I assume the xvs and the xv are the same system. I am currently still running my Radian with the fuel tap always on PRI, the fuel level in the carbs is controlled by the floats. I switch the fuel tap to ON when the motor is not running as the vacuum valve in the fuel tap doesn't work. Pull off the fuel line at the carb and turn the tap to PRI, does fuel flow out?
  14. +1 The results of all of this social engineering can be seen daily on the TV on something called the Jeremy Kyle Show. Before much longer, these will outnumber us as they are not subject to any breeding restrictions
  15. £200 Last packet i bought cost me 1 and 10
  16. Knock the bolt back in to check that youve not"mushroomed" the threaded end of the bolt over. If you have, its not gonna pass through until youve filed the mushroom off. Some times, if youre part way out, a little more weight drops onto the bolt as the assembly "crabs". Try to keep the holes all aligned up as youre stripping
  17. Cant you overhaul the carb, might be a lot more cost effective. As for another carb, cant help with the question but: XV250 carb part no 2UJ-14900-01-00 XVS125 carb part no 5JX-14901-00-00 XV125 carb part no 4RF-14901-00-00 Now then, I know that some of the chaps here can decipher these part nos, and anyone of them might be able to say whetther these are the same carb or not
  18. I'm embarrassed I knew I'd seen it somewhere before Damn this memo
  19. There's some interesting reading on the subject. I've come across this http://www.groups.tr-register.co.uk/wessex/ethanol-update.html Scroll to the bottom of the page, for the list of Ethanol free filling stations I'm gonna try em for a few weeks
