The first one, the 2 point jack, to remove the rear wheel, youd put the jack near the front of the frames. for the rear wheel removal, jack at the rear of the frames I wouldnt like to work on the bike while the jacks under it though, the footprint doesnt look large enough for me.     well done. if the motor is good, id be inclined to just cleanup/paint the exterior of it, then focus your time/resources on that needs to be restored/replaced.
  7. Not a particularly special deal there. Another £500 off would make it more reasonable, but like all bike buys, it pays to shop around first An xvs125 in good shape, and not chopped/generally fucked up will always fetch good money

  10. Lets guess that you put the tubing in the engine and drained the excess oil out. Yes? And youve now got the correct level of oil? Yes, you could have damaged the motor with too much
  11. Get the excess oil out first Bike has to be vertical upright to check the level in the sight glass Send me a PM and ill reply with the setting procedure for the clutch from the XVS125 manual
  12. Yes, you can replace the internal components you know, you dont have to have the whole carb

That rot on the caliper looks old decay to me, probably well estabished before you had the bike When I had the xvs125, I rode it through 2 consecutive winters, and when SMIDSY wrote it off for me, I got top dollar cos it was in top nick (got more than I paid for it) so it is possible to winter ide and keep bikes in good order. But it is time consuming Id througholy clean/wash the bike at the begining of November, dry it, and polish (chain off to wash dry lube) caliper off/pads out. Once dry ACF50 all over the bike, apart from brake disc/pads/seat/tyres. Time taken, around 6 hours or so Ride through winter, washing the bike the drying it acouple of times during the season Dont apply any more AFC50, should last through the winter. Once winters done, repeat the autumn wash Trouble is, it looks like you have some corrosion problems to deal with beforte you can get to that position

    Looks fairly intact, and in fair shape. Its only my opinion, but Id be inclined to see if it runs first. Does it turn over by hand/kickstart with the plug out

  19. You need to check what warranty came with the bike when you bought it. I can anticipate that the seller will say its out of warranty, and the rust and corrosion is as a result of winter riding/lack of care from the present owner Having said that, youve nowt to lose That caliper may need replacing, also the pistons and pads You say the chains loose?, could be stretched, using the condition of the caliper as an indicator, id say the bike has been neglected. Likely to need a real good going over for other potential problems
  20. Dont wait for the bearings to fail, could be nasty for you, and cause more damage to the machine Stuff like that should be ASAP
  21. Assuming that the bike has the two frame spars (like the xvs125), I used to put a stout piece of timber on the trolley jack, position the jack centrally under the front of the frame lock the rear brake on, raise the jack carefully so that only the front wheel lifts (rear stays on the deck) once high enough for the axle stands, slip them under the frame as close to the jack as you can get them lower caefully onto the stands. Should be nice and solid on that repeat the process now with the jack as far back as you can safely get it, slip your stands/timbers under the frame as close to the jack etc etc lower carefully onto stands/supports someone holding the bike while you do this is a big help, same when youve finished

A couple of tips: Try soaking the bolts/screws with Plusgas first, let it soak in to ease the threads Try easing the bolt/screws both ways a little, sometime its just enough to crack the seal If a socket cap screw/bolt socket is rounded, you can sometimes get em out by tapping into the worn socket, a torx key, just so big that as you tap it in, its cuts into the socket to give a nice tight fit When re-fitting, remeber to use a little copper grease. Makes it easier next time
  23. 4 pieces of good timber, with "V"s cut into them, spaced on the same centres as the two frame rails, secured onto the lifting platforms Might be perfectly safe but Id just use that lifter to lift the bike, then lower it onto stands before working on it
