all uk super unleadeds are ethanol free ethanol attracts water ethanol eats away at brass components, also rots seals/o rings etc, particularly in older engines as the seals/o rings were not designed to deal with ethanol

xj600 pre diversion rev counter AND right hand indicator failing
neversaydie replied to Camus's topic in Yamaha Workshop
sounds like youve blown lamps/relays etc. If regulatar fails, voltage to these items is no longer regulated at the max approx 14 volts, can go up to 40 volts start bike, multimeter across the pos and neg terminals on the battery, throttle at 5000rpm, multimeter shouldnt really go higher than 14 to 15 volts. If it does, change regulator -
Radians running fine still, just carbs to balance up Viragos carbs stripped, surprisingly clean, fitted the small bowl filter that was damaged, all scrupulously cleaned and re-fitted. Fired up first time but running shite, open the throttle and it bogs. Balanced the carbs, still no better. Checked the float levels, look ok to me, plugs sparkign good, new fuel, still crap. Plugs black, so looks to be rich, but cant locate mixture adjustment screws, Mikuni BST40 carbs

Just got back from Stafford, youve got some moneys worth of bike there, judging by the prices this morning

secondary resistance fz 10,560 to 15,480 secondary resistnace xj 9,600 to 14,400 fz 3 wires between pulse coils and ignitor, xj 2 wires between pulse coil and ignitor (think the 3rd wire is an earth linked to the dual puickups) fz one wire each to ignition coils from ignitor, same for xj the xj appears to have an additional wire connected that the fz doesnt, connected to a number of other electrical components im getting confused cos its an fz loom with xj parts and dont know which bike the ignitors from
-
Are you using the fazer coils or the coils for the xj motor?
-
Ive just realised, your fitting an xj600 motor into a fz600 loom?
-
if no spark at plugs red/white wires from ignition coils are fed by 10 amp fuse in fuse box, fuse snugged in? have you got the black/grey/orange connectors at the ignitor on the right terminals? Have you got an electrical schematic?
-
Very, very good looking bike

What is considered high mileage where problems may arrise?
neversaydie replied to EazyDuz's topic in Yamaha Customs
dont be guided simply by mileage You can have a 10k bike thats has the arse ragged off it and no servicing works, and then a 40k bike thats been regularly ridden and well maintained. Id take my chance with the latter try and establish some history -
Is that one for the NO campaign
-
checks done at the plug connector in the loom, 89 models and on, 81 to 121 ohms
-
from the ignitor (dual pickup type)
-
black - grey, black - orange, should read 108 to 132 ohms infinity to earth
-
is that otherwise known as the pickup coil?
-

Plugs screwed in finger tight, then a quarter turn with socket, or torqued up to spec as in manual Still got the right lead on the right plug? If the plug caps need the screwed top on the plugs to fit correclty, double check that the screw tops are tight on the plug Check and set the plug gap as per the manual Clean the old plugs and set the gap as per the manual Make sure you dont cross thread the plugs when fitting
