I think you'd be easier going down the 'make a suitable airbox' road, you mentioned that you are a dab hand with fibreglass, so I reckon you have the aptitude to fabricate an airbox that will fit the frame and do the job of getting the flow rate right, if you fit a butterfly then you will still have to filter the air before it enters the carb if you can get hold of a CBR airbox then use the volume dimensions to calculate what you need

Best tip I got was to keep my chin up-literaly, stick your nose in the air slightly, this allows you to rotate your head for 'lifesavers', makes you look confident too, use your stomach and lower back muscles to hold your torso up, its all too easy to slouch onto the bars-sitting proud will keep your control on the bars nimble (vital on slow manouvres and the U-turn) HTH Jim oh, and the very best of luck Chris
