  1. PJ1 black satin is the way to go, no primer required. I never seen a better paint to resist fuel and heat. I cried when the main factory was burned down ( well not quite!) as they stopped making My yamaha silver for the xs cases. they only make black now!! The stuff yambits sells is crap, it runs and you have to bake it forever to get the petrol resistance ( and it still pools silver if you spill on it) drewps
  2. love the styling and its great to see what people do to these versatile bikes. bobbers, chops, caferacers, trackers, seen most of these but yours is "one of a kind" well done!
  3. you can get remanufactured fuse boxes on UK ebay. apart from 30 year old wiring issues, there no massive problems just need to ensure you have a good battery for charging. drewps
  4. good one, i'll copy and paste the info into the sticky for xs400's drewps
  5. i use 20w fork oil for 200 lbs bloke
  6. flangers? do you mean the collars that hold the exhaust to the head? yep you would need those to get a gas tight seal! a dim head lamp could be a bad earth lead, so check all your black wire's connections and the bit under the seat where it touches the frame, make sure there is good contact (remove and scrape) does the headlamp get brighter when you rev?
  7. first off goldfinger I got lost reading the text so I'll start from scratch red/white wire (1into2) connection is switched live feed to coils doubled grey wire goes to right coil doubled orange goes to left coil single grey and single orange to contacts, you will have to swop round these as there is little way of knowing which way round they go as on my bike the colour coding is different on the contact's wires. drewps
  8. Pyro, It'll be nice to see ya in the classic section of this forum drewps

  12. Ipista is it the dohc xs400 or the sohc xs400?
  13. please don't overfill as you'll blow oil seals due to the pressure build up. to replace the camshaft seal, you only need to take off the cam cover and you can do it without removing the engine or anything daft like that. get the manual that's posted atthe top of this section as it gives the order which you undo and tighten the bolts to stop the cam cover warping. tank off, top mount off, tacho cable off, cam cover off.... sorted!! so much for "professionally" rebuilt engine!! drewps

  16. brilliant!!
  17. they'll fit but for a cafe racer you need megaphones!! drewps
  18. some 650 were compatible but there were other brake types as well, that's why I said the other bikes to be sure. drewps
  19. calipers won't rust they are alloy. there are rebuild kits around including stainless pistons.
  20. to the forum, like the paint job. Have I seen you on chopper underground?
  21. drewpy replied to mervin's topic in The Bar
    good one!!
  22. If the weathers good I'll be there! drewps I'll give OT a ring as I think he's got pc problems.
  23. its getting the bugger out, unless you can use a thin screw and pierce the rubber, twist a bit to bite in, then pull out. replacing is a simple matter of driving a new one in!! if the screw don't work, you only need to take the cam cover off drewps
  24. on compression stroke of course. recommended oil is 20w 40 5'c plus and 10w 30 < 0'c plus with type SE oil
