i think xs 250 has beaten me
I'm here... well what do you mean by not running proper? that could mean anything if you can described exactly what the bike is doing/sounding and revs etc i will be able to help you! 100psi is not good, its usually 140 psi the xs's are bloody funny with carbs, if they are not really really clean, and I mean stripped down and ALL orifices blown through and clear you will have issues. float height need to be spot on (26mm) checked your idle mix tips? bet they are broken off in the carb body (lucky if not)

Road rage!!!!
When I went to the renault open day at donnington, we had bikes and the length of the queue was onto the A500 filtering through and people were shouting at us and one opened the door to catch us out. if I was nearer i would have kicked the fooking door so it bounced back into his face!

ahh remember those day's. Any broker did that and when it ran out you got another one. 1 broker did get done for embezzlement as he kept the cash till someone claimed off the (non-exsistant) insurance.

JT1 Spokes
try this guy on ebay, he's from the far east but sent me some good spokes. ask him if he doesn't have them listed, he'll do you a free set if not on his data base (did for me coz I had disk spoked wheels) but you'll have to send off your old spokes. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/VintageAvenueShop/Yamaha-/_i.html?_nkw=spokes&_fsub=5&_sid=46653951 drewps

78 xs 400
you would have to measure the bore wear, could be just worn rings and a bore hone or at worse case, a rebore and new pistons/rings. its complicated if you don't know what you are doing. I suggest you get a haynes manual and read it, then you'll know what's involed. It's not an engine out job, just top end, new gaskets required (£20for top end). pistons will be he hardest to source I think +.75mm is the only ones you can get now and a specialist to rebore and hone the engine (who will need the pistons for measurement) I woudn't recommend running the bike like that as you'll blow seals in the crankcase, Get a second opinion off someone who can actually see the bike in person, because I can only go off what you tell me on here.

1973 tx500 engine replacement
I think it can be done as the 500 engine is bigger. you will have to make some engine plates and line up the chain to the rear wheel, a lot of work BTW!

sounds like the rings are worn and air is being compressed in the crankcase.

XS400 oil filter stuck!
can you not get a hook inside the hole and pull it out? it will wreck the filter so its a bit of a do or die senario. but you'll have to do it sometime. If you can take a picture it will help for more suggestions.
