  1. for a start the tyres should be 18" wider front tyres will slow the steering down the optimum would be BT45 bridgestone 90/90
  2. VJMC's 2nd Ux show at the racecourse. see and hear classic bikes, Sat and sunday
  3. why are you disconnectng the battery when the bike is running? you will f*ck up the rectifier and burn out the alternator and all you are doing is killing the juice to the coil thatr's why it stops!!
  4. bending the tag outwards ie opening the gap, will get the floats to close the fuel off sooner
  5. not usual, need to get either new seals or new brake hose depending where the leak is. seals are only supposed to have a 5 year life and fluid 2 year!!

its usually the front studs rusting in the barrel. need to get some plus gas/diesel down there and leave to soak for a week. empty and then heat and gently tap the block.
  7. woohooo at last

just had an idea check your brakes arn't dragging, when i had mine powder coated, they partially seized and it felt like evry time i changed gear the bike slowed noticably. I just gave the caliper a kick and a bit of shaking to free up the seizure. it took a while to keep doing ( ijust rebuilt them so i knew i had no seal issues) and now no problems
  9. use a carb balancer and get the needles pointing the same direction. if you can't get them to match then you have ignition or compression issues.
  10. yep, stop the wife riding pillion, works every time for me

just need to tune the bike, ignition timing valves etc and maybe adjust the pilot to richen or weaken a bit by checking the spark plugs.
  12. i have seen a support post snapped off a 250 model which woud render the kick inoperative. but you would need to jump on it to do that much damage!! will the pistons move if you bump it? try without the sparkies in just to check. that will eliminate the clutch once and for all!!

i think yours will be a 12E which is the dohc model not the sohc 's you mentioned

its called a false neutral and mine does it sometimes. mine clonks when cold but snicks when warm. my mates cbx1000 clonks everytime!!

  16. crap in the carbs causing fuel blockage, float height changed so starving carb of fuel. compensating with choke will make the sparkies look normal BTW modern fuels don't colour the sparkies like they used to!!
  17. bump!
  18. hills can have a positive or negative effect to a bikes speed!!
  19. fluid should be changed every 2 years, use sintered pads with stainless disks. the downside is that they wear out the disks quicker! make sure the brake piston is free to move and justy do a general clean up.
  20. if you get the manual via this forum, i'm sure there is the revs vs speed for each gear mentioned. I've overgeared mine so its 5500rpm to 60mph usually its 6k to 60mph/9.8k to 100mph (yes i've seen that on my bike) if your still not happy, then you will need to strip down the right hand clutch cover and check the quadrant and pawl is free to move the gears. you will be able to see this happening if someone changes gear (engine not running as you will have no oil in the engine, did i mention you need to drain the oil? ) it's obvious when you see it happening just sounds complicated. drewps
  21. when the seals are sound, they trap the air to make a sealed resevoir above the oil line in the forks. when the seals are knackered, the oils seeps out and you lose this cusioning effect, making the forks bottom out. having said that your springs could be also knackered!! you need to measure them against spec. dohc manual is available if you search this forum.

mine does it to some degree, its the age and the pertol nowerdays. 100miles form an 11litre tank is 50 mpg which is spot on. I get less, but i like to ride like i stole it!!

that figures, I did a search before posting and all i got was curtains!! I fixed my disks with stainless, just fixed any stressed mounting with steel as that stetches better when tightened and isn't as brittle as stainless.
  24. might have picked up crud from the tank, you did use an inline petrol filter? if ok, double check points, timing and no air leaks via inlet rubber (bung not fallen off?)

£135 for powder coating is cheep!! I didn't use stainless for engine and brake stuff as I've read it can shatter under load (not by how much though) but used stainless on all the engine. Who is this Armin Bahr? does he/she supply rims and spokes or both? i used "central wheels"which cost a bomb and I'm wanting new spokes for my flat tracker project ( i bet they are the same as RD) drewpy
