I would suggest you keep the airbox, as these are the best for the bikes ( and rare) you could always try bolting on an aftermarket megaphone, then everyone will hear you!!

rewiring is a matter of patience, wiring diagram and not being colour blind. If you can get a yamaha original service book, they even show where the loom goes!!
  6. the engine casings are the same, but you will need barrels, pistons, head (inc valves), cam cover and bs34 mikuni carbs/manifolds/air trunking. all the rest will suffice!
  7. which pilot jets? fuel air or mixture?
  8. drewpy replied to mcmunzell's post in a topic in Yamabyss
have a play with your idle adjustment, its on top at the front of the carb. you need to enrichen the mixture as the revs are "hanging" being too weak a mix. Mikuni BS34 is the 400 carbs can't see why the indicator switch cant work, double check its got all the correct buttons on and you may need to rewire the multi plug. drewps

you'll have to scour ebay uk for xs250's with wire wheels and get them just to send the hubs!! one just sold last week!!
  15. yamaha has clutch pushrods!!
  16. drewpy replied to hdheritage1's post in a topic in Classics
spindle= axle, its the thickness rather than length. its the matter of the hub. if you just want to respoke on a rim there's no problem that i can see except for speedo error!!
  17. drewpy replied to hdheritage1's post in a topic in Classics
you'll have to junk the front fender. but more importantly the xs650's have different size wheel spindles. If you know where there is one, get them to check the spindle size. you also need to think about spacing and speedo differences

get yourself a shitty bike and do it up. you can make mistakes and it don't matter. that's how i started at 15 with a CD175. It ran but i underestimated what a torque setting was and oil pissed out everywhere

bloody 'ell mate!! at least your not seriously hurt. I think the risk of riding a bike is outweighed by the sheer fun and the feeling of being truly alive. I had a serious accident in '92, arm in peices and a cracked spine. but I came back into biking cause I missed it too much, abet i don't bike to commute just to have fun. you'll be pissed off/depressed now, so don't make any rash decisions! drewps

the voltage regulator controls the amount of juice to the electromagnet which then controls the amount of charging that occurrs. this is to stop the battery overcharging. I'd look there! drewps
