XS400 Loses Power when Hot
I suggest you do a proper service first, timing, valves, carb balancing etc then have a look at fuel delivery, as you may have reduced flow starving the bike after 5 mins!

you've got the unusual version. this is a swinging caliper and was fitted to the rd400 daytona model (us version) there is a thread on this very caliper somewhere. HERE

XS250 / 360 / 400 Mikuni BS32 / 34 carburettors
Ritlow the needle position determines the midrange carburation. raising the needle richens and lower = weakens. I've checked my manuals and they don't say where the count is taken. looking at the pictures in there, the E-clip looks near the bottom part of the needle if that helps.

Having trouble adjusting valves, I think.
the easiest wsay to check your at TDC is put your thumb over the spark hole and listen for compression. Thats' turning the crank anti-clockwise on the left hand side the LT nearest that compression stroke is the one you use. LF is the firing mark and is in advance of TDC as it takes a millisencond for the fuel to ignite and the flame front to expand and send the piston down.
