I'm converting the gilera to 12v using a ducati solid sate stator and cdi/coil ignition from a derbi senda. will need a reg/rectifier and a small battery too. also the horn needs to be dc not ac.

try and check you put it on right, (gaskets etc) and move the main rubber thing around. also check the alloy for trueness

no you need to check/renew the float valves, they should be smooth and flat with no ridges on them. Also the floats should not contain any fuel as that will let fuel over flow.
