I got a reg/rec from China and was very cheap. Only downside is it takes a little while to come. Get one anyway as a spare Sent from my RM-914_eu_euro1_280 using Tapatalk

I'll check it Tommy, but there's only the loom in the upper frame that's original. No chance of any oil soaked wires there.

wouldn't rec over 1200, no airfilter on and no exhaust too it was loud! might go with the non -resistor plugs, maybe the silicone leads are resistor leads!

Help with XS 250 valuation please
we tend to find that peeps who do an intro first and then ask q's later tend to stick around and helping those peeps out tends to feed other posts which keep the forum alive. someone posting a question as first post only gets peoples back up as, happens all the time, we never see them again and we feel used because of this. Hence DT's post

well this is strange, wired in the new pickup coil and it didn't spark again. shortened the lead and it sparked! got continuity in the loom, so maybe its the ohm thing. got the engine going, but wouldn't rev at all, pulled the carbs but they were clean (from the last job) I do have another pickup but its 290 ohm with 1.5acv as opposed to 98ohm with .8 acv any thoughts on using that one?

The next project, cafe racer or streetfighter
I always like to clean the engine before I strip it, bolts etc get stick on the grease and get lost. did you put some oil down the bores or was that already there on the stripdown? you don't want smoothbores but a nice 45' cross hatch hone for oil retention

found me spark; combination of things 1) couldn't get to fire manually off battery, so took off the caps and the spark was very weak. even though Dyna say it doesn't matter which way the connections went,I turned them round and got a better spark. 2) kept the 5k caps on and resistor plugs as both = 10k ohms which is correct for the bike 3) tried an R1 pickup/trigger coil and it gave our 1.5volts, 3 times the old one. this told me that the one I have must be faulty 4) there was some rust/paint on the raised parts of the mag, so cleaned them up with wet and dry 5)installed a new trigger coil and got spit back out of carbs, so got sparks. still need to wire it in properly, but its had quite a downpour today so hopefully will get out tomorrow and see what's what she's not running as yet, but at least I'm getting there
