Hi guys, got my module 1 tomorrow morning and as I know a few people here have done it recently I was wondering if anyone had any tips? I've watched the videos, spent the last few days riding round car parks at 4mph, I'm quite confident and at the back of my mind I know its only cost me a tenner to have a go, if I pass great and if I fail at least I know what to expect for next time!

I think someone needs to remind these people that they are governing human beings, with free will and ideas and a desire to do stupid things every now and then. Why don't they just build giant conveyor belts into the roads so we can all be transported to and from work in an orderly and safe fashion. After all why would you want to do anything else but go to work, be a productive unit and then come home and sit and stare at your Telescreen all night whilst being told how great your life is...
  4. Thanks for the advice, and if you do measure them all I'd love to have a copy of the list! I will get the originals out soon but I have the first part of my practical test next week so I'm concentrating on riding the bike for the time being! Cheers, Chris
  5. Hi James I'm trying to find the exact same thing. I have some screw head fittings I want to replace with stainless steel allen head bolts but want to get the replacements before trying to remove the original busted ones, it's proving difficult. There are no replacement kits for our bike on ebay and I've emailed a few sellers and had no response. The closest thing I found was a parts catalogue for an SR150 which I believe is a mexican bike, not really much help. I haven't had any response from the yamaha dealer I emailed either. I'm now thinking I should just remove the bolts and take them in to my local bike dealers and see if they have any replacements. My only worry is if they don't have anything then the bike is out of action until I can find them.

I got a cheapish oxford one from Busters or M&P websites, cant remember which theyre both the same. Whatever one you get make sure you can lock it to the bike, I woke up to find my original cover had vanished. Couldn't decide whether it had blown away or been nicked, a cheap bike lock would have made it obvious.

Welcome to the forum! Don't ride one of those but it looks like a good little bike, probably the sort of thing I'll be after when I've passed my test. I'm going for the restricted license so have been looking at the Honda Rebel, the Virago looks good though. Chris

Well the place I did my CBT included bike hire, in fact I don't think they offered the chance to bring your own, but some places do. As long as you can do a U turn on the bike you won't have any problems. On my CBT we did the U turn on an industrial estate so it was a nice wide road, not too difficult. We also had to do a figure of 8 between cones, but again, it wasn't a very tight layout so not too challenging. I was on a YBR. One other thing to consider, not trying to put you off, but if you did drop a bike would you rather it was yours or their battered old training bike?

My name is Chris I'm 25, currently living in Portsmouth where I went to Uni (and now work there) but originally from Bury, Lancs. Did my CBT last September and bought my SR125 which has been great fun. Did my theory test in February and will one day get round to doing the practical. I hope to do some touring in future years but for now my priority is saving for a round the world trip later this year, and the bike wont fit in my rucksack

have fun on your new bike!
  16. Okay I know I'm resurrecting an old thread here, but I have just reminded myself that this job still needs doing. I know a few people said they had replaced screws with stainless steel allen head types, I was just wondering where you got them from, and how I can find out what size I need. Is it just a simple case of taking the old screws down to the nearest hardware shop and finding ones that look the same? No doubt I'm asking stupid questions here... I really am the product of an education system that puts no value on practical subjects (at least that's my excuse!)

Just thought I'd say thanks for this bit of advice, thought I'd try cleaning up the exhaust or my SR125 on Sunday and to my surprise got it looking like new and it wasn't even that difficult, just gentle application of wire wool and a bit of chrome cleaner, cheers!

Summertime by Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff, I grew up in the 90's and I'm not ashamed of it!

Hi Jon I have an SR125 and its been a great bike to learn on. It will give you a lot of confidence and its very forgiving. Its capable of keeping up with traffic on most A roads and is even fine on the dual carriageway. Speed will dip a bit on steep hills when the wind is against you but I think most bikes in this category will tend to do that. Mine's been very reliable, starts first time, it even coped well with the wintery UK roads and bad weather and shows no sign of rust. In fact I polished up the chrome yesterday and it looks almost brand new, not bad for a 9 year old bike. I can't offer much opinion of other bikes but I didn't really get on with the YBR I did my CBT on, but I suspect that was more to do with it being a training school's bike rather than the design of the thing. Where abouts are you Jon? I will be selling mine because I'm going travelling in November. I was planning on keeping it for the summer and getting rid just before I go but I might be tempted to sell it sooner if I can get a fair price, I'm in Portsmouth. Chris

I don't see how anyone can say its boring. There are a lot of differences between the Schumacher era and now, main one being that Jenson is beating his team mate fair and square. Last season was a bit of a farce, Mclaren and Ferrari both tried their best to throw the title away, and in my opinion the most deserving champ would have been Kubica. This year we just have a guy who has been through enough bad cars to know when to maximise every opportunity presented to him. I think the season is still open, the rules are still new enough to present teams with an opportunity to make big performance gains in a short space of time so Brawn might not be the fastest for long. To be honest though I don't see many other drivers being as complete as Button, possibly Alonso but I don't see Renault doing much to improve. I will be travelling to Spa in August and I'm quite confident I won't be bored at any point in the weekend!

    oh deer...
  22. Is it just me or is the scooter in that video nowhere near 32mph? It all looks very sedate to me. And the cones look more challenging in the diagram than on the actual course. Well good luck to all who are attempting this, I don't think I will have the cash to do it after all as I'm saving every penny to go travelling at the end of the year. Will enjoy my summer on L plates then if anyone wants an SR125 around September time let me know! haha

When I did my first CBT it was the first time I'd ever been on a bike and by the time I'd finished it I felt confident enough to ride on my own so I think it did it's job for me. However when I did buy my 125 the first thing I did was take it up to the industrial estate and practice my manouvers when nobody else was around. I've slowly built myself up from there, taking further trips when I've felt confident enough. Now I feel happy to go anywhere, my only problem is navigating the bloody A roads, I hate having to find alternatives to using the motorways! Hoping to do my A2 test on my current bike when money permits. I think my point is that you can't stop some numpty doing a CBT and then doing something stupid when they're riding alone. If you want to be a safe rider its your responsiblity at the end of the day. Like others have said there is plenty of additional training to help people, but not everyone wants that help. As for the kids on peds, they clearly don't give a shit, seeing them ride in shorts and flip flops with no gloves always baffles me, what's the difference between them falling off their scooter at 30mph and me falling off my bike at 30mph? They seem to think they're invincible.
  24. Sounds interesting, do you know if they are gonna stick to all A and B roads? Its just I might want to join around Portsmouth for a short while but may still be on my L plates then. Cheers for the info

Looks like a great ride out OG. I grew up in Bury and my Mum had friends in Glossop so I know how nice that area can be, I often miss the countryside in the north west. Now I'm in Portsmouth I can't really justify a decent mountain bike as there are no hills! So I've just got a knackered chinese Raleigh which is terrible but its hard to beat a nice ride out on a sunny day.
