Hi All, I've recently been looking into getting somthing a bit more interesting than my current XJ600, and have found a rather tidy TDM 850 going cheap - cheap because one of the big ends has gone. I've already had the pleasure of taking apart my Diversion's engine, and found that it's got "don't take apart yourself!" written all over it. Was hoping someone could shed some light on how 'user-friendly' these 850 engines are for repairs? Cheers Ross

Thanks for your help guys! Turns out it was a stuck float - couple of bangs to the back of the carbs with a rubber mallet did the trick! Cheers again

Hmm, It's possible the carbs have seized up I guess, they've been drained of fuel and left outside along with the chassis since we took the engine out (thinking we had everything that'd need replacing ). Thanks for your help - I'll be sure to post tomorrow once I've had a chance to look at the carbs! Cheers

That's right, the pipes just sit under the airbox, they don't connect to anything. We're just trying to figure out why the carbs are overflowing - the pump is the same, the carbs are the same... The connectors should prevent the fuel pump from being incorrectly wired... We're stumped!

Yeah, four cylinders. If you have a look at part no 37 of this picture - I believe these are the breather tubes that usually just sit under the airbox. We're only getting fuel out of the left one, but I think that's due to the bike being on it's side stand. Currently at work so I'm unable to check anything tonight... I'll be sure to see if it comes out of both when upright. Cheers

Hello! I recently bought an XJ600 Diversion off ebay for £250... Bargain! Bit of work got it MOT'd etc and it ran beautifully... for about 1000 miles. Now the motor is currently sat in peices awaiting a new conrod and some other bits Anyway, I picked up a Cat C write-off with an engine that'd done around 10,000 miles so we decided to stick it in my bike and see if it works. We got the engine running with little trouble, but as soon as it started running, we got fuel coming out of the carb breathers / overflow tubes and we've no idea why. The Fuel pump (electric) and the carbs are from the original bike, literally the only thing we've done is switch the engine out. I'm pretty sure all the wiring is as it should be and the engine runs without any strange noises - the exhausts were both blowing equally as well so I don't think it's a blockage. Not having a lot of experience with these bikes, or fuel pumps for that matter, we're at a loss. Any pointers or help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers Ross
