  1. You might want to report it to the police in case he tries to claim from you...?

    XVS 1100

Fair enough maybe they'll be cheaper in a few years? I've always preferred the Speedo on the XVS 950 than that on the 1300. Good luck with the buy, looking forward to see what you do to it

    XVS 1100

Go for the XVS1300... Fantastic bike (albeit a bit more expensive) 72bhp - you know it makes sense

    Bluetooth

When I was getting my new phone (old one died) the fella in the shop asked me what I wanted to use my phone for, I said make calls, have bluetooth, play music, and take pictures (all for motorbike use which my old phone did). He started going on about facebook etc & when I said I didn't bother with anything like that he looked as though I was retarded... I vaguely remember the days when phones were for calling people

    Scam call

I had a lovely Indian lady call me today from Microsoft Explorer technical department about my computer problem. I politely explained I didn't have a problem but she insisted I did and told me she'd put me on hold so I could get in front of my computer at which point she'd continue the conversation. I told her goodbye and hung up. Thought I'd post this just in case any of you get a friendly call from Microsoft. I'd heard of this scam before, but if you haven't it's worth remembering Microsoft won't call you out of the blue...

    Bluetooth

I've got the Cardo Scala G4 which is good. Had for over 3 years and no problems. Can receive calls easy enough but now I've upgraded my phone to one of these 'smart' phones I have issues making calls on the move (it'll do last number redial) but my previous basic phone had voice tagging as one of the contact options and worked much better. I use it mainly for listening to music (quietly) off my phone on my way to work.
  7. I've just put some XVS1300 bits on ebay if anyone is interested... I added some Givi Trekker cases to the Strom yesterday, there's a 33L, 46L and 52L box on it now + I should be getting a tank bag at the end of the week - the missus says she can fill them with shoes for our holiday...

    My first pull

I best not look over my shoulder round here then hopefully just a one off? I've always found police to be reasonable but if you do get a wrong one then you should complain if you feel the need to...
  9. Cheers Pat. I've only done 400 miles since Saturday, but it makes me.realise how much I've missed the old Fazer. Motorbikes are much more enjoyable to ride than scooters. Off to French Alps in a few weeks so looking forward to put it through its paces.
  10. I don't think you'd find insurance in the UK for one of them...
  11. I'd report to trading standards and name and shame on here so no-one else gets ripped off. Aren't you covered by distant sellers act that gives you so long to return the part for full refund?
  12. I know what you mean about the DL following the 1300 but I think it has about 69bhp(?) so is in the region of the 1300. Re: mileage, I was speaking to another salesman about how many miles I should do a year on the Strom & he said Glass hasn't reviewed their mileage figures in over 15 years so don't worry about it....
  13. Thanks for the suggestions. I've just traded it and the XVS1300 in for a Suzuki 650 V Strom. The SH300 is a good city ride and does leave all cars behind at the lights, but I reckon my 1300 would out pace it from the lights (40mph 1st gear, 70 second) but I can't fault the scooter for what it does. I did notice the previous owner had the rear shocks on the softest settings, so I put them back to stock which improved the handling loads. I've recently been riding from Leeds to Manchester across the M62 and whilst the scooter will get upto 80 for overtaking it doesn't have much left going up the hills, and the recent strong winds make riding an interesting experience
  14. Well, I've gone and done it and traded the XVS1300 and SH300i for a Suzuki 650 V-Strom of all things... I loved my XVS1300 loads and wouldn't have traded it in at all, but it wasn't suited for the other half so it had to go in the end. Shame, but hopefully someone else will like it as much as what I did. One thing that did surprise me was the dealer reckons it's got double the mileage for its age (09) at 10,500 - according to that bloody Glass book it should have around 5,000 miles. I didn't even use it as much as what I wanted to...! What's the point of a bike if you don't ride it??? Anyway if anyone is interested in a cobra slip on exhaust or an O2 mod PM me... I'll be sticking it on ebay soon, but if I can help out a fellow forum member I'd rather do that first. I'll post a pic of the Strom when I pick it up on Saturday
  15. I ran a wire from the battery (via fuse) under the tank and installed a waterproof cigarrette socket under the throttle side neck cover, When the cover is on you can't tell its there. I might have a pic...
  16. I had spokes snap on the rear wheel a few years ago just after I came from a 60 to a 40 zone. In that case a dealership had overtightened them but it makes me think replacing is better than chancing...

    Airhawk seat

My other half has an airhawk and says it's better than stock but we still have to pull over for her every now and then. It could be cheaper to have the seat modified? Tonyarcher.co.uk charges around £60 to reshape/insert gel .
  18. I get less nods since I got the scooter than when I had the fazer... At the mo I reckon 1 in 10 will nod back, in winter it's more like 9 in 10.
  19. Glad u got sorted. Post a picture when you get the bike
  20. I found the 2 years passed quick, and 33bhp is plenty when you're jumping from 12-15bhp, then when the restrictor comes off its like a new bike... My 1300 was a throttle restrictor. Whilst I appreciate MCNs article, if you've paid for a restrictor and have the certificate from a dealer (and of course you don't remove the restriction) I bet the bike wouldn't be tested by police etc... If you do it yourself then you could have issues...? Then again if the bike is 33bhp you should be alright
  21. That is really annoying as I used ttasky's instructions to help me do the xvs125 carb joint. Fortunately I took pics of me doing the carb joint which includes using string for the Speedo cable (which will be a pain in the a$$ to do without). Here's the link to the pics I took http://s1030.photobucket.com/albums/y362/clarkegray/XVS%20repairs/
  22. That's bizarre, I guess business must be good for Yamaha Harrogate? Good luck on the purchase
