sorry folks, i was thinking of my DT50 which is CDI ignition and not points

1) TZRs are alright, though the Aprillia RS50s tend to be a bit quicker stock on top end. 2) its autolube, you fill up a seperate tank with two stroke oil and it feeds the oil in automatically 3) My DT has done near 28,000 miles and still on its original seals, bearings e.t.c (although the gear change seal is starting to weep), i have only changed to a big bore, RS50s tend to be around 20,000 so i would imagine the TZR would be similar depending how you ride it, if you thrash the bollocks off it then it may need new seals and bearings sooner than it would if you cruised

as far as im aware the only way to tell is to swap it for a known working unit and then check for a spark :\

this indicates continuous rich running make sure all the jets and passages in the carb are clean, maybe go down a jet size says in my haynes manual that the DT50 MX 1981 onwards had a #88 main jet as stock, if you are running any modifications or have removed any it may be nescessary to change the jet accordingly

i know, as i understand it the zener is a regulator, turning the excess voltage into heat so that the battery is not overcharged. what the wiring diagram is showing me and what i see on the bike are whats confusing me. such as on the diagram you can see "Regulator", wheras on my bike im pretty sure that is the Rectifier, because the zener is my regulator. fekkin czechs ¬¬

nope, feck knows what is going on with that wiring diagram. basically where those 6 diodes are i have just one big zener diode sat in the middle of a heatsink found some diodes and regulators on a website appropriately named FEKED EDIT: BWJ, maybe this will answer your question; Back in the 60s and 70s a lot of the little bikes had these single wave rectifiers. Now most bikes have full wave rectifiers that have four diodes

spoke to an auto electrician today who suggested replacing the zener diode as it has most likely been damaged (plastic casing around it has melted and the solder on one of the tags had burnt off) anyone know what replacement zener diode i need?, if this dont fix the feckin thing it will be down the scrapyard,
