Hey everyone im itching to get back to the UK and take my trusty rusty XJ out for a spin, but before i left i was having problems and id like to try and get to the bottom of it before i start thrashing it like a loonie again. at high speeds (80-100) for extended periods of time it would die, almost asif running lean, during this time if the throttle is closed and opened gradually the bike will recover and run normally up to about half/3-4 throttle, on the first incident it cut out and would not run right until i had left it to stand for about 2-3 minutes, after which it appeared to be fine (by this time i was riding through the town, not at speed). i also experiance a lag when opening from part to full throttle at speed, it will cut back before running up to full power and takes approximately 1 second from it cutting to recovering, i have done a plug chop and to no avail, spark plugs look like overcooked cornflakes which (as i understand) is good. it is running a motad 4-1 system, everything else is stock, theres plenty of oil in it and its never done it to me before up until a few months ago, carbs were also balanced a few months ago as always any thoughts appreciated gents,
  3. Well im up for it and ive booked that day off work, just need to know what sort of return timings you are planning so i can get the bookings through
  4. i meant the Great Dorset steam Fair, www.gdsf.co.uk i wasnt aware of the Lyon rideout but im currently posted overseas for a while, if i remember rightly there was a pub called the Red Lion somewhere near me which frequently had biker nights every wednesday night, will look in to the Paignton one though, even if its just for a little roadtrip

  6. Hey everyone, im looking for some meets in the south to attend from mid-July, would be a great opportunity to meet some of you crazy people and possibly some of you sane people aswell, cant make squires unfortunately as it clashes with the Great Dorset which i attend annually.

ive got some ebay cheapie heated grips on my '89 XJ (pre diversion), they are good in the winter and now i wouldnt ride without them, they have a high/low/off switch but i usually ride with them on high or off other than that, i have a set of cheapie tracky top and bottom set that do the job fine in mild downpours, but anything heavy or sustained tends to seep through, as do my dads pair of '80s HG leather jeans that im still using (after over 2 years of riding, sorry dad), got a Tuzo leather jacket from busters for £50 about a year and half ago, an oxford "cold killer", a balaclava and some HG gloves which are well worth the money hope this helps Foameh

Cor'Blimey, that really making me want to get home and start working on mine... where did you get the decals done and is there any way you can get the original paint codes? also, is that right-hand silencer the original? or "repaired", thinking about welding mine back up with a bit of fabrication

  14. blimey Knight, lets hope i can get my "working parts" to look as good as that!. i think i will stick with the original clutch cover for now to keep it as original as i can, as for the cases after seeing how good your have turned out im going to paint them instead, the handlebars will be powdercoated though, isnt really much point in rechroming them as they are going to be hidden under a plastic cover anyway, or i could get some "chrome in a can" from halfrauds lol and no 2-wheels, i havent finished it yet lol, im still out of the country, but im now stockpiling parts ready for when im back
  15. 53p and a chance of being robbed... tbh i honestly have no idea...
  16. Vic: just curious, what sort of money were they after for that turbo?. ive decided to get another used tank aswell, should hopefully have most if not all of the parts required when i get back to the UK, then its a case of stripping everything down ready for powdercoating, was considering getting the engine cases powdercoated but is it really worth it and will it look right?, also the handlebars were chrome plated at one point but most of it has flaked off, since they are going to be hidden under a cover is it worth getting them re-chromed? im not looking to get the bike to concourse condition but as good and as near to original spec as i can get it for under £2,000

  23. sounds good, will have to pay the £50 courier charge as west yorkshire is too far from me to drop off in the car, would cost me more than that to get there each way!. have pinged them an email and hopefully will be able to get a few other parts powdercoated aswell (surge tank for example) EDIT: just recieved a reply from triple-S and they will charge around £250 to collect, shotblast, powdercoat and deliver the frame, swingarm, handlebars, engine covers, sidestand, mainstand and seat pan, so the rest of the bike will be dismantled shortly after i get back and prepped ready to go

Depends if you want to keep it, look around and see what the VFRs' in good condition are going for, also take into account the working hours you are willing to put into it and cost of miscellanious parts such as tyres, and any other underlying problems (rattles, oil leaks/burning e.t.c)
  25. So far cheapest quote ive had for the frame only is £230 to be shotblasted and powdercoated, is this a decent price or a ripoff?.
