Classic first cars?
the original minis look like a good choice but the decent ones are a bit pricey, and they look a bit too small for my liking, as for insurance i will have to have a word with my dad and see if i can be a named driver on his insurance. like the sunbeam alpine though... but they are too expensive

Classic first cars?
Hi everyone. have been discussing first cars with a friend of mine, his dad bought him an MGB GT for Xmas for £500 and im helping him restore it so he can use it as his first car (1.8 liter, woot!). ive been thinking about my first car for a while now. i want something nice, something with prestigue, none of these horrible little chav chariots or peashooters that fall down every pothole they come to and have currently decided on a ford capri laser, insurance is £2,700 TPF&T and ive already put £106 towards that so i dont mind if the insurance is a little bit pricey aslong as its a nice car. anyone got any suggestions as to what i should look for that matches my criteria?, ideally under or around the £1,000 mark - Steve

6-speed 50s'?
hi everyone. am looking to upgrade my little DT50 MX for something that will let me keep up with lorries on dual carriageways. must have a 6 speed gearbox, and preferably enduro style with an electric start and 12v electrics. methink even the newer DTs' are only five speed and the only other 6 Speeds around are Derbi sendas and some of the later Suzuki bikes. anyone know of a 50cc that will fit the above criteria? (or better yet, is selling on?) - Steve

What makes a streetfighter?
oh ive got plenty of weird and wonderful ideas for fightering it, all i need now is a 250 frame/bike, a spanner and a sketch pad Found a NSR frame on evilbay, looks like it would be ideal http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-NSR-250-NSR250...%3A1|240%3A1318 you ever get things like turbos for fighters?

How far over?
hi everyone. just a quick question i got a yamaha DT50MX, for its size it is a heavy bike and has knobbly tires, i usually drop to 3rd gear for cornering, about 25mph. how far can i go over (lean) before the tyres let go? (and they are brand new knobblies) on dry tarmac on a good day. i tried getting my knee down a few months ago on my sisters pushbike and ended up in somebodies garden with my jeans ripped and a lot of skin missing from my right knee, ever since then ive been a bit aprehensive about really going over incase i end up on my arse again

What makes a streetfighter?
only bad thing is insurance at my age... for a 400cc FZR it will be around £500 third party only, hence why i want to go for a 250 because they are only about £200 TP F&T would it be possible to fighter a CB250? or possibly even an XS250?

What makes a streetfighter?
Ooh, got any pics of the blackbird fighter? and Goff, could you PWEASE post up a pic of your SF all lit up on your riveway with the purple neons on? , i always liked that piccy XD

What makes a streetfighter?
i do indeed Goff and its nice you speak your mind, albeit it is a bit abrupt. SH: Fair enough, i think myself and goff mistook your earlier explanation and read it asthough you were insisting most SF bikes are bodge jobs, which you have now explained is not the case. back on topic. Engines... the really fun part, what sort of weird and wonderful things do you do to squeeze more power out of the block?

What makes a streetfighter?
okay, the arguing stops here. no more bitching about who has "X amount of experiance" doing what and who has Y authority to do that. every member has a right to express their thoguhts and opinions in an appropriate way, if you do feel the need to argue/explain or whatever else you want to call it, take it elsewhere, this thread is not the time nor place. thankyou for your time - Steve

What makes a streetfighter?
calm down Goff, just a misunderstanding anyway, what does it do to the handling/performance, and any particular reason you went with GSX frames for your last couple of fighters? surely must hurt your wrists after an hour or two

Ever get withdrawal symptoms?
hi everyone.. ive been off the bike for 5 days because last sunday the headlight decided it didnt want to work, so i had to leave it at my dads house in Hungerford and he is currently replacing the corroded wiring. and ever since ive been miserable, irritable, lazy and just dont feel right. i want to get out there on a B-road and feel the wind blowing past my visor at 40mph, that bike is my escape, and being without it for 5 days just doesnt feel right... you ever get that when youa re off the road for so long?

What makes a streetfighter?
willb e watching Goffs new streetfighter project with great anticipation . it possible to streetfighter enduros? or does it have to be a sports bike?
-
What makes a streetfighter?
Hi everyone have seen a few streetfighters on eBay lately and also remember seeing pics of Goffs wonderful 'Zuki. but what makes a streetfighter a streetfighter?, what criteria does it have to meet?. theres some cheap sports bikes around and im toying with the thought of having a bash at a little 250-400 streetfighter. - Steve

Parking for bikes?
now there is an advantage of having a two stroke... the excess oil just drips out the exhaust pipe so to make goo use of it, simply wipe the excess oil under the door handles and on the windscreen wipers, im a proper biker now

Cracked Engine Case Repair
the shifter may have a broken/weak return spring which is preventing the lever from returning to the centre when you shift down, hence why you have to put your foot right down and pull it back up. also, strip it down and check your selector forks, bent/broken selector forks can cause all sorts of problems. finding Neutral isnt always easy, on some bikes it will drop straight into neutral, on my DT i usually have to change into 2nd and then tap my foot on the lever to get it to drop into neutral, i've been told this is a worn detent plunger but it works so im not going to fiddle with it incase i break it the crack wont have any effect on the engine compression and your lack of power is most likely the carb, if it isnt set up right i may be running the mixture overly rich (too much fuel, bogs down, no power) or too lean (less fuel, engine tends to run hotter and in extreme cases be low on power) im not familiar with that particular bike but im assuming its a 2 stroke, if its a 4 stroke then check your vales and timing to make sure it is set up right.

how fast is fast?
Fast = 50mph, its all i could squeeze out of my little DT50 and that was downhill all huddled up against the bike, getting alaughed at by every chav in their honda civics, but it was fun fast through a corner = 30mph... learnt a very painful lesson whilst trying to get my knee down on a push-bike... skinny tyres on wet roads = FAIL, still havent got my confidence back enough to go over far enough on my DT

Its done it again!
havent considered replacing the loom as it only appears to be the black wires under the headlight that have gone all shitty, most likely because its all exposed to the wind, rain and shite. will keep an eye out for a wiring loom on the 'bay, to keep as a spare if nothing else. just got off the phone to my dad, he says its most likely a bit of both, when starting it the bike will rev up and then drop, and when its idling the RPMs will go up and down so its most likely a lean mixture despite the fact the plug looks black... :S how long does it take for the effects of the mixture to show on the plug?, ive got two plugs coming from ebay anyway so i could try a new plug anyway ive already started prepping for ireland, hence why ive now put new tyres and brakes on it and am sorting out little problems like these

YZF750R RUNNIN LIKE A PIG
are you running an in-line fuel filter?, that may help prevent it sucking shite from the bottom of your tank in future, get some fuel treatment and give it a good blast to clear it out a bit, if it still doesnt get better you may need to strip down the carb and clean out any obstructions, blocked jets e.t.c have you tried it on fresh fuel?, contaminated fuel can give a bike some dodgey symptoms
