    car drivers

even when im riding shotgun in my parents cars' i find myself doing lifesavers, checking the mirrors and talking through the whole procedure. "mirror, mirror, lifesaver, indicate e.t.c..." i reckon i'd be a better driver than my mum... LOL
  2. you can fit an oversized piston but you would need to get the barrel bored out to accept the extra width, go on ebay, there are big bore kits for about £45 on there, it is basically a 60cc piston and a whole new barrel which replaces your old one, i had one and it was great, used to get 50mph+ from it but didnt jet my carb and it chewed itself up. you will need to rejet your carb, i was originally going up from a 99 to a 115. to get the best use out of it i suggest you also look at getting an aftermarket exhaust and a pod style (K&N) air filter, both of these would require re-jetting (mine already had a filter and exhaust together and came jetted from a 88 to a 99) and are cheap and easy to do if you are wanting more speed then perhaps change your gearing?, the largest front sprocket available i think is a 14t and the smallest rear is a 44t which will give a noticeable increase in top speed at the expense of acceleration. ive tried every trick in the book to get more speed out of my DT and the exhaust is probably one of the easiest ones to do and give a surprising amount of extra power, it lets the engine breathe a lot better and when used with a K&N air filter causes less restriction in the engine,
  3. yeh, just had a look in my haynes and if indeed the clutch rod is snapping then there is something very wrong but i doubt it is clutch related which of the two pushrods is supposedly snapping?, the one on the left-hand side or right-hand side?
  4. the DT50MX clutch rod is a solid bar, i will have a look in my haynes manual and see what i can dig up. yours is the same year as mine, mines done 24,000 miles and is still on the original rod... any idea where the other 1cm is going if it has snapped off inside the case?

    car drivers

Cars give people a sense of authority, hence why people in 4x4s think they own the roads and cut up other car drivers, and why people in estates cut up fiat pandas, and why fiat pandas and everyone else cuts up us bikers. on a 50cc its worse, you can't accelerate as fast and are sometimes a bit slow to react and people just dont want to wait, you can't keep up with traffic so people will follow you with full beam headlights and overtake in dangerous situations. Car drivers need to be taught motorcycle awareness, no question about it, and learners NEED a more powerful bike, i refuse to ride on the dual carriageway because lorries are restricted to 55 and my top speed is about 45-50mph, and the last thing i want is to be overtaken by a lorry! (would end up spread across the tarmac)
  6. yeh i had a look at those a while back, im just looking for a second hand one around £750, age and mileage doesnt really matter aslong as it has long legs and is cheap.
  7. replaced the headlamp wiring and put a new jubilee clip on the carb, all is well now. feels great
  8. ... including the big bore its on its 3rd... its not easy finding a modern car that is good looking, under 1.6 capacity, not rotten and cheap to insure. even a 1L suzuki swift will cost me £2,000 to insure it
  9. hi everyone. would quite like to build a motorcylce trailer so i can transport my DT around without having to call my dad over to pick it up in the van or for when i next breakdown miles from anywere. my dad recently built himself a double-axles trailer using a trailer tent chassis and wheels, box section and checker plate, are there any plans/drawings available for fabricating a single or maybe even double motorcycle trailer? regards Steve
  10. the original minis look like a good choice but the decent ones are a bit pricey, and they look a bit too small for my liking, as for insurance i will have to have a word with my dad and see if i can be a named driver on his insurance. like the sunbeam alpine though... but they are too expensive
  11. Hi everyone. have been discussing first cars with a friend of mine, his dad bought him an MGB GT for Xmas for £500 and im helping him restore it so he can use it as his first car (1.8 liter, woot!). ive been thinking about my first car for a while now. i want something nice, something with prestigue, none of these horrible little chav chariots or peashooters that fall down every pothole they come to and have currently decided on a ford capri laser, insurance is £2,700 TPF&T and ive already put £106 towards that so i dont mind if the insurance is a little bit pricey aslong as its a nice car. anyone got any suggestions as to what i should look for that matches my criteria?, ideally under or around the £1,000 mark - Steve
  12. hi everyone. am looking to upgrade my little DT50 MX for something that will let me keep up with lorries on dual carriageways. must have a 6 speed gearbox, and preferably enduro style with an electric start and 12v electrics. methink even the newer DTs' are only five speed and the only other 6 Speeds around are Derbi sendas and some of the later Suzuki bikes. anyone know of a 50cc that will fit the above criteria? (or better yet, is selling on?) - Steve
  13. oh ive got plenty of weird and wonderful ideas for fightering it, all i need now is a 250 frame/bike, a spanner and a sketch pad Found a NSR frame on evilbay, looks like it would be ideal http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-NSR-250-NSR250...%3A1|240%3A1318 you ever get things like turbos for fighters?
  14. hi everyone. just a quick question i got a yamaha DT50MX, for its size it is a heavy bike and has knobbly tires, i usually drop to 3rd gear for cornering, about 25mph. how far can i go over (lean) before the tyres let go? (and they are brand new knobblies) on dry tarmac on a good day. i tried getting my knee down a few months ago on my sisters pushbike and ended up in somebodies garden with my jeans ripped and a lot of skin missing from my right knee, ever since then ive been a bit aprehensive about really going over incase i end up on my arse again
  15. only bad thing is insurance at my age... for a 400cc FZR it will be around £500 third party only, hence why i want to go for a 250 because they are only about £200 TP F&T would it be possible to fighter a CB250? or possibly even an XS250?
  16. Ooh, got any pics of the blackbird fighter? and Goff, could you PWEASE post up a pic of your SF all lit up on your riveway with the purple neons on? , i always liked that piccy XD
  17. i do indeed Goff and its nice you speak your mind, albeit it is a bit abrupt. SH: Fair enough, i think myself and goff mistook your earlier explanation and read it asthough you were insisting most SF bikes are bodge jobs, which you have now explained is not the case. back on topic. Engines... the really fun part, what sort of weird and wonderful things do you do to squeeze more power out of the block?
  18. okay, the arguing stops here. no more bitching about who has "X amount of experiance" doing what and who has Y authority to do that. every member has a right to express their thoguhts and opinions in an appropriate way, if you do feel the need to argue/explain or whatever else you want to call it, take it elsewhere, this thread is not the time nor place. thankyou for your time - Steve
  19. calm down Goff, just a misunderstanding anyway, what does it do to the handling/performance, and any particular reason you went with GSX frames for your last couple of fighters? surely must hurt your wrists after an hour or two
  20. i beat a peugeot 106 off the lights in town... went quite well until he actually put his foot down and overtook me... thats the problem with these 50cc bikes, couldn't pullt he skin off a rice pudding
  21. i havent got a choice, no car so gotta ride whatever the weather my dad didnt bother with cars until he was about 19 though... and considering the price of insurance i will probably do the same
  22. hi everyone.. ive been off the bike for 5 days because last sunday the headlight decided it didnt want to work, so i had to leave it at my dads house in Hungerford and he is currently replacing the corroded wiring. and ever since ive been miserable, irritable, lazy and just dont feel right. i want to get out there on a B-road and feel the wind blowing past my visor at 40mph, that bike is my escape, and being without it for 5 days just doesnt feel right... you ever get that when youa re off the road for so long?
  23. willb e watching Goffs new streetfighter project with great anticipation . it possible to streetfighter enduros? or does it have to be a sports bike?
  24. Hi everyone have seen a few streetfighters on eBay lately and also remember seeing pics of Goffs wonderful 'Zuki. but what makes a streetfighter a streetfighter?, what criteria does it have to meet?. theres some cheap sports bikes around and im toying with the thought of having a bash at a little 250-400 streetfighter. - Steve
