  1. your kids should know and understand the risks like the rest of us do, but theres no reason why it could be their last ride. im sure most of you riders are ery responsable and can deal with most situations on the road with ease, and with a passenger its all the more important to take care never bothered me when i was hanging off the back of my dads CBR900RR doing 150 down the motorway, loved it
  2. quite like the idea of riding bikes either as a "proper job" or just something to do on the side, i know there aint that much money to be made in it but id be willing to try it out failing that, anyone know any pizza places that still use mopeds to deliver?

    Clothing

hi everyone. just trying to sort out my motorcycle clothing for the year. i got myself a very nice Tuzo leather jacket in the busters sale a few weeks ago. full grain leather, armour, removable liner e.t.c for £50 as it was end-of-the-line. thing is, its a bit heavy and very warm... a bit too warm and methink in summer it will be a bit too much to lug around on the DT. so i started looking at textile clothing. in probike they had some end-of-the-line stuff for £79.99 but didnt have any in the small size that i require... so ive been looking on the web and found the "Mirage" and "Airtec" jackets for a good price. http://www.motouk.net/acatalog/Textile_Jackets.html#aRAYV52 anyone ever done dealings with motouk and can comment on the quality of their jackets? so in short im looking for a good quality textile jacket in small for around £50?, but have no idea what/where to look, anyone got any reccomendations? also need a good set of leather jeans... - Steve EDIT: One more thing, it has to be blue or blue/black to match the dragons
  4. hi everyone... are there any rules/terms a person needs to meet before they can become a motorcycle courier? (for a business or even privately) sounds like an interesting job, i would quite like to give it a go... anyone had any experiance being a courier? needs something with a bigger payload than my DT50 though... maybe a jawa with a sidecar - Steve
  5. i was right pissed off scratching my new leather jacket... paid £50 for that in busters sale (was £130) saved up my paper round muneh for 5 weeks to get that...
  6. shit, looks like i missed the fun stuff reminds me of the Monkeys from Madagascar... "if you've got any poo, fling it now"
  7. you've already posted in the Yamabys section matey, looks like you put a typo in the title though

If you stick around long enough, you will begin to understand Goff in her weird and wonderful ways. Goffs advice is like getting a brick thrown through your window, then finding a birthday card with gift vouchers attached to it.
  9. im sure ebay will come in handy for parts one day later on, but for now the bike is pretty much complete. if worse comes to worst i will probably find myself mix'n'matching parts off other bikes

    Originality

you think them brakes are bad, wait 'till you try the brakes on my DT... scary at the best of times
  11. on my DT it had a 10 front and 52 rear and was doing 35 flat out, im now running a 14 front and 48 rear and can get 45-50mph on a good day most people say go up 2 teeth a time, i personally have tried that method and found it to be absolute shite on these small bikes. go down to say, a 45 on the rear and a 16 on the front and see how you get on dont forget to change the chain when you do the sprockets as they will last longer when changed as a set
  12. LOL, my DT50 does 50 on a good day . what sprockets are you running?, changing to a larger front sprocket can make a world of difference and on a 125cc you should have enough power to still get good performance. addition of a free-flowing exhaust and K&N filter will also increase power output (make sure you add bigger jets to your carb)
  13. have had a look on the MB website and i can't seem to find any 350 style parts on it that i need will have a look at the carbon brushes tomorrow when it is light outside... too cold to go and play in the garage now. nice loud horn on it aswell, maybe i will get heard instead of laughed at as i do with my DTs' 6v horn EDIT: Pics added in the gallery
  14. was going along a street covered with ice last week (i was late for school and was maybe pushing it a little). the car infront of me braked and pulled onto the kerb to park. i put the brakes on, front wheel locked and next thing i know is im on my ass skidding along the road. i pick the bike up and its fine, decided to walk it from there as the school was only round the corner and the worst part, i put a scratch in my BRAND NEW WEEK OLD LEATHER JACKET! . other than that, worst bike-related injury was riding in jeans because i was "just nipping into town", hit a bit of ice on the roundabout and went over onto my left knee, had some road rash, a limp and a big black bruise for about a month afterwards. now i ride with head-to-toe protection. (once bitten, twice shy and all that lark)
  15. Swinton did me a good deal, about £30 cheaper than anyone else. my dad uses them for his 'blade aswell (his is only £70 TP F&T and mine is £220) try www.gocompare.com to compare insurance prices. or, for compare meerkats, go to www.comparethemeerkat.com simples
  16. Its a "Jawa 350 Style" and from what i can see there arent any breaks in the wiring and the alternator looks okay. its a right PITA to start and usually involves running up and down the road with it for 10 minutes, if/when i can be bothered to go through the whole routine again i will test the alternator to see if there is anything coming out of it, if their isnt then that's my problem... ... btw, how do i test the alternator? its all a learning curve i suppose... haven't joined the Jawa owners club yet, was kinda hopeing they would have a forum but its not listed on their website haven't found a manual yet
  17. picked up the new battery today and fitted it, also drained the tank and added fresh petrol with 25:1 oil mix, cleaned the carb out and put some redex in the carb bowl aswell, and after much more running up and down the street and kicking it furious it DID fire up in the biggest cloud of white smoke you've ever seen. after it had warmed up and p*ssed off the neighbours the smoke died down but its running lean, when you first start it the revs go up to about 4/5k and after about 10 seconds they work their way down to 3K, then if you turn the choke off i can get it to idle around 1.5/2k, but the revs are all over the place and it only seems to be firing on the left-hand cylinder as the right-hand one does not smoke from the exhaust, and only when you rev it up does it smoke from both exhausts. however, when you put the choke on it revs up to about 4k also, when revving it up if you open it to WOT straight away it will die down and cut out, if you gradually work your way to full throttle it will rev up and then hold the high revs even with the throttle closed right back. found the problem though, the little rubber bush that goes over the carb manifold and bolts into the reed block seems to have perished and is a bit of a loose fit, will see if i can find a similar/same replacement on the 'net Now, second problem: it doesnt charge the battery when its running, after a few minutes the voltage drops to 7v and if you put the lights on, sound the horn or do anything else involving electricity it dies
  18. had a look through the preious psots and couldnt find an answer :S went into Motorists Discount Centre today and got a new CB5L-B battery ordered for £15.00 Inc P&P, picking it up tomorrow but i may aswell put a bit of charge in the old one and see if that will go
  19. the only two that were badly rusted on were the ones under the rear wheel that hold the mudguard onto the fairing. how can i tell if tis magneto ignition or not?... theres a pretty chunky alternator on the right-hand side of it by the looks of things... that count for anything?
  20. oh okay, will go into the post office tomorrow whilst i am in town getting a new battery are they going to ask me for my driving licence number, MOT certificate and all that other shite like when i went to pay my bike tax? i am in the process of applying for a new licence as i lost my old one and my Government Gateway card when my wallet got lost
  21. Hi everyone. work is progressing on my Jawa and hopefully with the addition of a charged battery it will run. it currently has an old style V5 certificate, and also, the previous owner is now deceased so i can't get his signature for the declaration of sale. so... how do i go about getting a new V5C in my name? regards Steveo
  22. where is it stamped?, on the bike or on the V5C? it isnt a legal requirement to list the mileage on the V5C certificate so i sohuldn't think there would be any problems registering it, your insurance premium may increase though if it has had a shunt and been written off. perhaps a little info abojt the bikes history?, is it a writeoff and is the V5C present?
  23. i would have prefered a bollocking... usually if she is all quiet it means she is planning something big and there is going to be trouble later... dont think it is a mag ignition, though im not 100% sure how to tell... theres a weird little black box thing wired onto the alternator and into the rest of the loom and a lot of other electrical bits behind one fo the side panels, so far ive identified the regulator/rectifier unit, a relay/contacts for something and a couple of other gizmos i havent had a good look at yet
  24. my secret has been rumbled... she went into the garage to get something whilst i was at work and saw the bike in there under the cover, she was surprisingly calm and just said "by the way, i've seen the new bike in the garage..."... which is probably a lot worse than if she had bollocked me outright... Tested for spark and there is none visible from either spark plug, resistance is about 12k on both HT leads with killswitch on and infinite with killswitch off. tried putting the plug from my DT50 in there and even that won't spark, so looks like ive got me an ignition fault. whilst i was in the garage i stripped the panels off and had a good look, fair amount of rust on most of the nuts and bolts so i think i will put all new bolts on it when i re-assemble it. the battery looks pretty much shot as its all sulphated inside, so i may aswell get a new one of those tomorrow when i got to pick up my new DT battery from probike. most of the wiring is in tact and in pretty good condition, except the rear left indicator which isn't connected but that shouldn't take long to hook up. even found a bottle of castrol 75w gear oil under the seat all in all i'm rather happy with my new peashooter...
