  1. Welcome to the forum , looks like you've had quite a few experiances!
  2. OG: my DT had a 60 bore kit, and i remember my first big bore kit ceised up miles from anywhere, leaving me to push it 3 miles uphill to my garage in the darkness. as mentioned in the email i sent you, my DT was running the original carb but with a 100 main jet, higher needle and a cone filter, but if im honest i think even that was too lean, its better to start with too big a main jet (or "rich") and work it down until it runs right than it is to start lean (not enough fuel) as running lean causes overheating, holed pistons, scored bores and eventually ceising up (see story at the top of this post)
  3. as above, an introduction will unlock a whole world of info, until the users know you they are more likely to keep to themselves. so c'mon, tell us about yourself! as for the fault, my money is on a dead battery, the "click" could well be the starter solenoid switching over to a live circuit, but your battery does not have enough juice to turn the engine over. on the XJ this is personified on the rev counter (when the starter is pressed the engine wont turn over and the rev counter turns to about 5-6k position) welcome and enjoy your stay!
  4. Welcome to the forum Rick, as above, pictures are a must! I am Foamy, riders of XJs' and liker of Pepsi, i believe you have already encountered OG and Drewps
  5. i may just grab myself a tub of popcorn and watch the action unfold... but i feel obliged to chip in and atleast make a vague atempt to help. Happy_chappy_owner: With this forum comes a lot of banter, some of it may seem to be aggressive at first, but longer serving members such as Up_Yours are extremely laid-back and offer this banter only to brighten your day and also the day of the other forum members, please take it with a pinchh of salt or with sugar according to taste, any hostility is unintended. as for the bike, try simple things such as free-flowing exhausts and less restricting air filters, next up from that you can try big bore kits or boring out the cylinder, hotter spark plug, smaller or larger rear sprocket (more speed or more acceleration accordingly), strip as much weight FROM THE BIKE as you can.
  6. exhaust, cone filter, smaller rear sprocket or larger front sprocket, re-jet your carb, job done.
  7. cost me £70 to fill the sportage from empty to full this week... £70 feckin quid... £20 to fill the bike, need to get it through its MOT again
  8. Not enough charge in the battery to turn it over, by XJ used to do that, charge or replace the battery
  9. im the same neversaydie, theres always a need to buy more cutting disks, linishing wheels and all sorts...
  10. You can pick up decent second hand xj forks off fleabay, I got a used set for about £20 and they are still sat in my shed Small pits can be filled with araldite and sanded down
  11. Had that one pulled on me when I filled up the old swift I had, cheeky fucker,
  12. Hot shit drewps! That looks friggin' sweet!
  13. Kinda misunderstood the title there, merv...
  14. I used a grease nipple, I think it was a unf thread so not an exact fit so don't go mad and wind it right in it was just a gash one I had at the bottom of my toolbox, then just attach a grease gun and pump away until the piston is pushed out Other calipers may fit but I have no idea what ones
  15. Hi peeps I think the time has finally come where no amount of exhaust putty will hold the XJs' tatty old Motad Neta 4-1 exhaust system together... ive been looking around for replacements but have only been able to find the same Motad Neta system and a Predator 4-1 system personally, i like the look of 4-2 systems better but as of yet have been unable to find a 4-2 system for the pre diversion XJ, does anyone know where i can find one or if i could fabricate my won? the downpipes from the old Neta are still in good shape, its only the mild steel collector box that has gone rotten. cheers peeps, input appreciated as always - Foameh x
  16. yeah i ended up buying a new old stock Pirelli MT09, hopefully this will last longer than whatever was on it before... £50 though! friggin hell!
  17. have continued work on the turbo project, with creative use of a hammer and chisel the turbos mounting nuts have been removed, as have the turbo manifold nuts but im having a lot of trouble seperating the turbo from the exhaust manifold, it just doesnt want to seperate, and i cant remove the downpipes and turbo all as one unit because the exhaust clamps are ciesed onto the studs solid. im planning to use an aftermarket exhaust system when i rebuild this bik but im still reluctant to cut the old exhaust to bits
  18. Cheers OG, i got outbid on a rear tyre with 1 second to go!, friggin snipers! >.<
  19. Better get in line, Vic, im also after one to play with... reminds me of my old DT... god i miss that sweet-ass bike i had
  20. can anyone advise what to do about the crack in the frame?...
  21. This friggin turbo is doing my head in!, i was down there all night with a dremel and a f*cking big bar trying to free it but to no avail, and whats more my dremel has broke, but i did spray up a few parts, one of the brake calipers, headlight surround, footpegs and a few other bits and the airbox/inlet, got a few pics which i will upload at some point, need to buy myself a f*cking great big hammer and chisel to get this turbo bolt off... Have managed to find an aftermarket exhaust system for it, aswell as one for the 600, doesnt exactly look original though...
  22. that what i resorted to doing merv but he saw right through it, new back tyre on ebay for £15... hopefully i will get it without having to pay another £70 for another conti-go that wears through in less than a year, cant see why my car tyres last over a year but the bike tyres dont... oh, also when taking apart the rear shock and its brackets i noticed something... where the top of the shock brace mounts, on the left hand side the bracket has cracked along the frame...
  23. well these things happen i spose, was kinda rushing it tbh, and it turns out that "new rear tyre" was actually the front one i bought for the XJ Turbo... its an inch too feckin big... should'a checked before i started but hey-ho...
  24. nah phone ran out of battery. the fucker failed... excessive play in rear shock absorber bushing, LH fork oil seal leaking, rear tyre below legal limit (personally, i think it is ok for now, but the tester said otherwise...) it just so happens i have a new rear tyre ready to go on, but in the absence of a tyre changing maching ive spent the last hour belting it with a hammer, shoving tyre levers into it and was pondering cutting the old one off with a stanley knife, and the old man is hogging the lathe tonight so not much chance of being able to bore out and re-bush the shock linkage, looks like im going to miss my re-inspection tomorrow, then i will be back at work, and pretty soon the 10-day free re-test period will be up and i will be another £20 down the pan, brilliant. so for the time being im back to driving the fecking car, which will make me even poorer... time for beer now
