  1. How old is the chain. If the bearing is that bad it will be leaking oil at the sprocket. Bearing is more of a rumble. Not rattle and grind that sounds more chain.

    Chroming

True, I will look at them. The rear mudguard was painted black, to cover the advanced pitting. Shame as the rest of the chrome is just a little weathered now I have cleaned it all. Tcut and wire wool followed by that neat touch with the tin foil. Don't know what it does and it takes patience but it brings it back. To a probably even better, looks like its 40years old but tidy, appearance. If the chrome paint looks naff I think my fall back will be to paint it the same colour as the bike. Then replace the chrome fittings (that you can still get for stupidly cheap money). Its a rider so i'm going to stone chip/rustproof the underside of the mudguards and such. Seeing as they normally rot from the inside out.

    Chroming

Whats it cost these days, most of the brightwork is in ok nick just some light pitting, you could call it patina but the rear mudguard was painted in the past. Obviously if that is sorted and goes on looking like a new pin the rest will look shit so would be looking at doing it all. The rear guards rot like politicians so just having a solid one is a blessing. It should be chromed but have never even looked at chroming stuff. Is it possible on mildly corroded/ratty parts like the rear muddy or cost prohibitive. Its going to be a rider not a poser.
  4. Honestly, on your bike I would be dead or in prison within weeks. I sold my 600 because I was riding it too damn fast. Destroying tyres drifting the rear, that was before cameras everywhere. If you gave me a 200mph bike, I would be doing 200mph. Thankfully I realised I would run out of luck, life or licence and bought the TDR. I can rag the bollocks of that and still be under a ton (mostly). I was just surprised at just how much of a difference it made.
  5. Ok, so HOW many times do we hear the pub championship winning tw@ say he has saved 3grammes from fitting a different headlight bulb. They say losing a bit of weight makes all the difference, well after that diabetic business I had/have/er? anyway. From October I am now a trim 75kg, (around 12st). That's over 4 stone down. Now this year my bike has felt a lot quicker, initially I had to change the suspension preload by quite a lot and it certainly goes a damn sight better. I thought my cock up fitting those wheels with a 40 instead of a 44 tooth sprocket would be on my to do list. Not a bit of it, pulls it fine now I have got rid of the flab. That got me wondering, 130kg for the bike 105 (ahem) for me as a starting point at my worst. 235 on (lets be honest) 45hp. That's .19hp/kg Now 130kg for the bike, 75 for me and 45hp. 205 = .21hp/kg Or, in real terms, its worth around 11%, so not eating all the pies got me a right result. Lot of waffle if you ride a cruiser or a superbike bit on a sensitive little bugger like mine its made a hell of a difference. And yes I am bragging about losing a shit load of weight.
  6. The proper euro spec pots are best (60cc) with that carb and a good pipe. Cost you a fortune if you can find them. Got clocked on my dt50m at over 60. Spedo stopped at 50.
  7. LOL, been a long time since I was called 'boy', pops. I have a killer twisted wire brush that fits my grinder that will make it quite easy to strip. Need a shower after though.
  8. Not the faintest. Much as I hate sending people to other sites, have you been to www.fs1eoc.co.uk If they don't know your goosed.
  9. What do we think, I have started doing up my H#nda 175, I have it down to a bare frame. Do I blast and powder coat or strip it the old fashioned way with some elbow grease then paint. Its never going to win a concourse event or do more than couple of hundred miles a year, just be my nice toy. Never win a race but its got enough go to put a big smile on your face, brakes that will take it right off again though. The wife and I fancy taking it to next years classic tt, the full 70's thing. Paint is cheap but needs a bit of effort, powder cost money and time, looking at a month for either of the two near me, although it may be less but they wont commit. ? decisions.
  10. Sorry but that will get you just slightly more than the square root of cock all. It will just sound faster(ish). In truth it will sound like a fs1e minus its baffles. If you want it faster you can do it but you need to do it properly. Fully sorted the right way a fs1e flat out can punch a decent hole in 60mph providing you weigh the same as a hunt jockey. It will also not massively dent its value if you modify it properly, period aftermarket pipe etc. May even add some value. Doing nasty teenage bodges will just ruin it like the teenagers (I was one ) did.
  11. Adjusted/lubed the chain recently?
  12. Sounds like fuel flow to me. How is the float height and fuel flow.

    dt175

Not that I'm aware of. Uban myth from the UK restrictions maybe. LC models had washers but don't think they went to the US. More likely on a 78 is your high speed coil is failing. Check the stator resistances. The 78 cdi uses 2 Coils one for low rpm the other for high. Known as a 7 wire system amongst owners. Yep 7 wires between the cdi and the mag. The approx point where the system switches over between Coils is 6k.
  14. Dirt bikes are hassle, a minter may have been left and used when it was dry. One that looks unloved could have been serviced every race. Buyer be very aware.
  15. OOps, my bad. I have often as not done it in the past. Habit.
  16. Looks like.. Me, haven't missed one yet. Bip Drew Tommy Fin 2 wheels Kev John? Bloody good trip down for you. Maybe Slice, all the best to the wife.
  17. I bet they were at 17 quid a night. Ouch. Well I haven't missed any of the others so I will see you there. Got Friday off so will be there whenever, google gave me the most depressing directions of M1,M6,M42,M5 to A40. On a bike, I think not. Cross country through Worcester and Hereford feels like the way to go. Should be a nice trip.
  18. Totally get that. The tdr may get swapped for a vmax one day unless I can convince the wife to let me have both.
  19. Mate.. 3k. You like the 650 looks. Lighter, sweeter handling and still not stuuuuupid money. A 350b would do it. Get a Propper good one for 3k. A better bike than the 400 if I had to say or be shot. Then it's a smokey and I'm biased.

Don't laugh, its hilarious. Sorry Alex,
  22. Jealous, can only use bike specific track days as they all seem to have capacity limits now.

    Forum update

HAHA, i was you for a while earlier in the week.
  24. Have you tried the 140 now the carb is clean. With the pipe etc you are into guesswork. It had a 140 so that's where to start. You have checked the earth's, plug cap lead etc and the plug. Always job No1 with running issues on a 2 stroke.
