  1. No other way for coolant to get into the exhaust unless the head has cracked. And yep, only pukka head gaskets.
  2. Sorry Kev, I agree the year stays. Like a concert tee shirt or my old knackered Mad Sunday tee shirt. No bullshitting you were there, badge of honour thing.
  3. Missed the run of this, nearly put off by the doughnut, (pokes out minds eye). Large number 4 please Mr Numan san.....
  4. WOW that is hard work reading. Something connected to something its shouldn't. As above some sort of earth fault, by that I don't mean a bad earth. Something that should not be connected to earth is. Time and a multimeter mixed with a stock of tea/coffee/cigs as required for this one.
  5. Heh I have black AND gold wheels. No tick box for that
  6. I have said on here several times. I would far sooner have a well looked after original bike (like my tdr) than a bitza that been abused and rebuilt time again (er like my dt). The discoloured paint on the barrel. The marks of life give a bike soul. A perfect restoration most of the time these days follows a stck line. Strip bike. Complete engine rebuild with all new. Strip and recoat frame New seat New wiring New rubber grips etc New cables New New zzzzzzzzzzzz They are not restored their replaced using the old bike as a pattern. On stuff like dirtys lil 125, fine that is pretty rough. People ask if im going to restore my tdr, fuck off or close to it is the usual response. The bike is 26 years old, 10k or so, pretty much as it left the factory. Save for some dodgy wheel painting (dunno now fixed). Original, good nick and in vaguely regular use with tax and test is what makes money. Not ornaments.
  7. +1 No performace benefit at all, just losses as well as needing to find something to fit the, cdi, battery to as well as fabing a mud shield. That airbox does quite a bit.
  8. Wax you tash chaps n chappets, the brits are coming. Albeit at a steady speed in a haze of castrol.
  9. Generally to end up collectable they need to be memorable, and, well. Rd's were the fastest, TDR250's put people in prison or hospital, there has to be something. Hell people swoon over cx500's so you never know.
  10. Try for a multibike policy. Get them all covered. 'should' be cost of the blade ins plus a bit. For the extra paperwork and f/t risk. The insurance wins while you ride a 50 at blade rates but overall you will save.
  11. The ears of the inspector are fine for old timers like ours andy. Even as new we could make a good noise. The latest stuff is like 84db or something like. More important, if plod catches you without baffles then you get in to due dilligance crap, as you driving an unfit vehicle intentionally. Depends how lucky you feel and how fresh out of school the pleb, er plod is.
  12. Its ok steve I think minimum premium is about 70 quid so you hardly being robbed. Its 160 something for mine. (both together.... )
  13. Dont worry you will move to the dark side, you cannot resist forever.
  14. So go say hi in the new members area first. Its considerd rude not to here. Simple enough reply, nothing flash, who, where what thats all. Get far more replies if you do. Although the answer to that particular question is only a google away.
  15. Just for balance. The xs is an old yam and the old world effect is fine. Dont we want to be a little more overall. Bippo has a new ride, er! Dirty has a new bi... motorcycle too. Just a thought..
  16. The 'once its legal' bit stood out for me. Untill it gets a proper run and use you dont really know whats up, save the rear brake of course.
  17. ows about we ring squires, find out who does their tees/sweatshirts. Then see if we could add Home of YOC 2014 or something like. Not like we havent chucked a few quid over the bar eh.
  18. Er, without being too specific riding up with Dirty (ts250) and Andrewelvisfan (sr125) I think I was getting around 70mpg, ocifer.... To follow what DDT said I would happily tolerate all the TDR's quirks, and they are not few. Rather than ride anything modern. Wherever I go the on TDR or the DT people stop and chat , park it and people walk right past fancy uber fast power ranger stuff to have a look. The best bit about my bike is its original, including bits fiddled and buggerd about with. To me that gives it soul. No restorers have steralised it. No offence DDT
  19. Hmm, 2gallons to reserve and towards seaways last year I think I was doing about 20 to 25mpg
