Deer stalker hat - ....Watch out, horses startle easily. I agree, I don't think anything will get done when it is down to money. I also don't think it helps the cause being taken seriously when he petition creator writes "It is either discrimination against motorcyclists, or blatant milking of us for financial benefit". That cries out "I've had a few to drink and I'm angry with something. Screw the man, screw him good." But it would be nice to see it at least get enough signatories to be looked at, even if we are all unclean criminals.

You think learning the 'English' translations in America is hard, try learning them in Scottish. http://www.firstfoot.com/dictionary An then yer arse fell aff. A term used when someone is bullshitting. Arse bandit Pejorative term for a homosexual Auldjin Anybody older than 40. Bampot A mildly unhinged person. Banger To describe someone that's mentally challenged "check the nick a that banger over there" can also be used when enquiring on how your pal got on with his new girlfriend. "Did ye banger?" baw bag scrotum Bawbag A useless person " Haw, see you Vogts, yerr a bawbag ya choob" baw hair a hairsbreadth. He missed me by a baw hair To name but a few....

I don't know if anyone has seen this, or if it's been posted about, but found it quite interesting, if a little thin on information. http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/48869 Anyone got any thoughts on it?
  4. I've purchased this as a small GPS module to fit inside the bike. After looking at custom building one, the price was going to be around £150 inc VAT for boards, shields, antennae etc, vs this one at £20. Although the custom one would be easier to hide with external antennae, I will try to fit this neat little thing within the instrument cluster (it is that small!) then it only has plastic to beam through. Scotty should have no problems getting a lock. I will update with my results in a later post and let you know if it's worth it. If I do move on to building one myself, I'm sure that'll be a longer blog post. Now to figure out how I'm going to connect this to my 6v battery without killing my bike cheers
  5. Sorry, I feel you over-estimate the worth others will place on my bike as well.
  6. I feel you over-estimate the worth I place on my little YB. That being said, my customised version was going to employ a deep seated unit, hidden down in the frame and potentially hard to access without prior knowledge, with a covert antenna that isn't easy to spot, so I might get them when it gets taken out the van if they fail to realise it has such a unit. T-minus 2 days before I get my little one back and still time to figure out if I want to build one. I can always put it on my car if I don't use it much. Cheers
  7. Reading back through from Page 1, this caught my eye........... is there anything else you'd like to predict??
  8. Hey guys and girls, hope you are all doing well. I'm back on after a long winter (every time I worked on my bike for more than 10 mins my testicles turned to ice cubes), so I gave up - and as well as being a fair weather golfer, fair weather rugby player, fair weather hiker, I'd also like to be a fair weather mechanic/motorcycle enthusiast. My little YB100, after spending the past few years working on getting it rebuilt, is finally in at the local garage getting it's first MOT. I have been informed it only failed on 3 minor things: fork seal, rear brake bulb/switch, and something on the wrong way round (but as I didn't look at the picture when I installed it, I'm not surprised). So it's almost there!!! On now to the question that I thought I'd pose to everyone. I have no security features, apart from a bike chain (still to buy), and the insurance excess of £600 that I'd have to pay is the exact cost of the bike's worth (pointless insurance eh!)...so I thought I'd install a GPS tracker...for a bit of fun and security only, not as a insurance reducer or something to rely on, strictly for tinkering...coz I likes to do it. Has anyone here used a GPS tracker for their bike? I can buy a prebuilt tracker, with GPS, SMS/GSM/GPRS and a built in datalogger and covert microphone to pick-up the would be bike thief's voice. Something similar to this Or I can build a GPS/GSM/GPRS/Microphone+Datalogger using Arduino and some circuits (more expensive but customisable). Does anyone have any success with them? Does anyone use them and/or had to use it when a bike has gone missing? I know it's a tinkering thing, now I've fixed the bike, I'm moving onto the next project of a CNC machine then my wind turbine, but I thought I'd try this before for the bikes sake. Any input would be good to know. Trackers are getting cheaper and cheaper, and its hard to find a downside to having one, even more so if you can charge it from the bike without reducing the bike battery when switched off. Many thanks, and I hope you're all enjoying the weekend. I am. And I thoroughly recommend Brothers Strawberry Premium Cider as a fruity alternative to the traditional apple cider/scrumpy. Cheers, atocp

For me, my bike is not my primary mode of transport, so I can afford to take my time on it (several years now ), rather pay to get it done. If there's something I can't do myself, I usually refer to the Haynes book of lies, which inspires me to google it. And obviously on here for advice or Youtube for instructional videos. If there's something big that is a specialist job, I'll save up to buy the equipment to do it because I will learn for next time, and have to tools to do it for others, but then again, a YB100 isn't exactly a complex sophisticated machine.
  10. sorry, saw grouch's reply and thought it was the post above, didn't even look at the post. as for the risers, i'd have a go at making them myself...but i suppose thats not really the point of "what do you want for christmas" is it?!
  11. Here Boon - ION Turntable, There is a cheaper one, but whenever I buy from Amazon, I always buy using the reviews. 3 Star or less, wont buy it. There might be cheaper elsewhere, but this gives you an idea of what Grouch suggested. -atocp
  12. DirtyDT, you could try this as a watch box...i reckon it should do the trick. As for me, i'll be asking for the usual, Charlize Theron, Ferrari, Charlize Theron and Heidi Klum, 1959 T120 Triumph Bonneville, Charlize Theron, Heidi Klum and some melted chocolate, and Mary Berry. Ooohhh, and the West Wing boxset, absolute bargain! But to be honest, if it wasn't so bloody expensive, I'd love a KitchenAid food mixer with a dough attachment. Can't get enough of the GBBO with Mary, Paul, Mel and Sue.

Hi Mailee, This maybe a stupid question, but have you test ridden either of them. If you are wanting to know what they are gonna be like, I'd imagine a Yamaha dealer to feel them out might be best, then hit ebay/autotrader/etc if you're looking for second hand? But then again, thats from someone on his first bike, with only a CBT and not much biking experience. Cheers, atocp
  14. hahahaha, brutal honesty. I appreciate that.
  15. run? hahaha, oh how i dream of such a day. blue skies, the shining glow of the midday sun bathing down in its warmth and comforting splendour. no. it doesnt run. havent tried it since i replaced the gasket that tore when i tried it last time. you have given me hope though, that there's not an 'issue' per say, but rather issues that will resolve themselves when the engine is running. I'm now out in my garage, and I'm going to put things back together so i can try and start it tomorrow after work. Thanks again for your assistance. You really must be getting sick of me by now!?! cheers, atocp
  16. The headlight yellow wire comes of the back of the headlight and into the double connector, which originates in the dimmer panel. The double connector only shows 1 wire connected to it on the diagram, the other is empty. I traced it back to the high beam 3w bulb, so it MUST go into the other side, but they've neglected to draw it. On the upside (and I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for kinda o fwasting your time) as well as tracing the yellow wire, somehow the indicators have started working. At slow and not quite steady speed, but I imagine thats just because its running off the battery only. The problem is still this bloomin pilot light. Just wont come on at all. Already checked the bulb, and its good. But im going to go out and play with the ammeter now. Again thank you for your help, and sorry that I'm the one that is acting simples. I'm not really normally, but for some reason my logic, for which im normally noted for, seems to disappear when I get excited about working on my bike. I'm easily amused. Oh look, a butterfly........ cheers, atocp
  17. Sent the email. Hope you got it ok. I've managed to figure out the yellow wire issue. They have missed out the High Beam bulb in the diagram!!!! Thats what the yellow wire goes into! So it must join onto the double yellow connector coming out of the HEADLIGHT 6v25/25w in order to take some current when the headlight is switched on!! Doesn't help my other issue though, as I connected up the yellow wire into the double connector and it still doesn't do anything like I'd hoped. I'm going out now to test the bulbs to make sure there is a circuit in them (the small 3w ones) but even if they were popped, the other bulbs are new. Thanks for the help, atocp
  18. First off, hello all. If you're reading this you probably have an interest in motorcycles, electrical problems, YB100's or horses. Or all. Or electrical horses. Or motorcycling horses. This is an extension to something that was talked about in a recent post, in which I was talking about electrical wiring of the 1989 YB100. On that post, I was asking about colours, and since then, I have wired up all the bike according to the electrical wiring diagram. Apart from one random thin yellow wire coming out of the left 'dash' stalk, that isn't accounted for in the schematic. This is more of a general electrics problem I am having. When I put a battery into the bike, some things work, some dont. The things that work are tail light, horn, oil light and neutral light. The things that don't are pilot light, headlight, brake light, indicators, full beam light and indicator 'indicating' lights. Now, I understand some of these things will not come on until the engine comes on, headlight (brake light? indicators? not sure what others) but I also know that some should, i.e. pilot light. I have tried to get it going but with no success. I have a new battery, fully charged and a new bulb...fully....clean....but nada. Here goes. I checked the current, and the current to the pilot light before switching on the lights, and it was at 20mA. Then upon switching it on, dropped to 0 with no light. On the headlight, it was around 50mA, dropping to 0 with no light. I think I'm looking at no current getting to the light. Switches work, as there is a change in current when used. Wires are ok, as they were circuit tested. Bulbs are all new, as is the battery. Wiring diagram was followed like sheep follow a shepherd. But I'm not sure what this is indicitive of? Can anyone shed some light on this? (pun totally intended, as they always are) This seems like a simple thing, like bad ground, but I've gone over ALL connections and wiring, inside and out (fibre optic inspection camera and then removing wiring loom). Can anyone maybe suggest a possible component failure that might be responsible? New contacts, new rectifier, new flasher, new ignition coil, new bulbs, new battery, NOT a new resistor, new fuse. I've been annoyed with this for a while. I thought I had other problems, which I have now fixed. But if the electrics don't work, and the lights don't come on, whats the point, eh!? Many thanks for any help or suggestions you can come up with, even if they are just guesses. If you have read this far, then here you go: Patient: Doctor, doctor. I've come out in spots like cherries on a cake. Doctor: Ah, you must have analogy. Cheers, atocp
  19. Hey shambles, thanks for the info. I took apart all the wiring at the front inside the headlight - which was a mess - and pulled it all out. Re-wired it all back up based on the colour coding in the Haynes diagram. I used the continuity check when trying to figure out which wires of the same colour were connected to what. I'm going to use the voltage setting once I try it again with everything connected (but not put back in, better test while its out!!), but for now, I have to wait for the battery to charge. Tested it a little before I took it apart and it dropped a few couple of volts. On a related, side note. I seem to have an extra wire. Its thinner than the rest, and is coming from the left hand instruments stalk. There are 3 lights, Indicator, High Beam and Neutral. There is a connector block coming out of it (with Brown-Blue-Black-Green)...and a yellow? The yellow is just sitting there. As I say, its thinner than the others, but is not on the diagram and not accounted for anywhere. The yellow in the headlight connects to a double spade connector, and then down through the loom, but only connectes to one side of the double connector. Is this mystery yellow, thats not on the diagram, meant to connect into the second side, so along with the headlight, it will maybe light up the High Beam? Im worried to connect it up, as the bulb in the instrument panel is only a 3W, whereas the headlight is 25W, so I don't want to blow anything. Or is it a redundant wire that would be used to fit an after-sales part to the bike? I'm going back out in an hour once the battery has finished charging. I think between now and then I'm going to watch the Great British Bake Off on iPlayer. Many thanks for the advice, and any suggestions as to what this weird yellow wire is. As usual, its going to be something really simple and logical, but I just cant work it out. Cheers, atocp
  20. Yeah Airhead, I've got a multimeter. The headlamp is a mess, so im going to rewire it and put on proper connectors etc, and insulate the connections with a little tape to make sure. Do that tomorrow night or Saturday. And blackhat, I've noticed the bracket for the new horn is differnt, so I'll leave it to save myself some bodgering. My multimeter has a beep/circuit function on it, is that the same as the circuit tester, just with sound rather than lighting up? Thanks, atocp
  21. boom boom The tail light and pilot light don't come on. They used to, back before i took the bike apart, but back then when you pressed the brake the indicator would come on, or you pressed the horn and the brake light would go. It was messed up. But at the moment, no, connecting it all up and putting on the ignition to posn 2, the rear light doesn't come on, on any sequence of handlebar buttons. cheers, atocp
  22. Well, some good news and some bad news. Here's the good. Figured out the wire colours, and they - surprisingly - are as follows: Old Light: black - blue - yellow New Light: B/W - BLACK - RED The colours actually match as follows: B/W+black=(ground) - RED+yellow=(brake) - BLACK+blue=(tail light). mmm...confusing. I used the actual 6v4Ah battery and magically worked. I say magic, but im pretty sure physicists know whats going on. Now the bad news. After reading your last post, my electrics don't look too good, at the front. When the key is in the second position, the lights don't seem to function. No headlight/tail light/brake light/dipped beam/indicators. The horn is barely audible (although its an old horn, and could be completely shot - got a new one to fit. However, as I said previously, the neutral and oil light are bright. In fact, the oil light comes on even when full of oil, which to me says faulty oil gauge sensor, but maybe should be saying incorrect wiring? I have already started to take the wiring out the back of the bike, and im going to strip down the front either tomorrow night or saturday. The more I talk about it, the more I start to think I've got something either grounding at the front or I've wired up several things wrong. What else might cause the lack of lights when the ignition is on, the battery is 6.7V! Anyways, more good news. Along with the rather scrumptious salad, I've decided to have a lovely strawberry creme patisserie. This photos not mine, but it looks the closest to my dessert. Gotta balance the good and the bad right? Cheers, atocp
  23. Oil and neutral indicators come one quite bright. Indicators don't work. Front lights don't work. Brake light doesn't work. I was kind of hoping that they drew more current that could be supplied without the engine running. Unfortunately, as its a 6v4Ah, and I'll end up blowing the rear lights, im going to go and quickly hook up some AA's to give me the 6v and low power. That way when I can get one filament to light but not the other, I'm getting the lesser of the two, and thats the blue. mmm...off to the garage I go. I hope i don't have to raid the remote controls in the house now. i'll be back on soon to let you know how it went. cheers, atocp
  24. when i connect the battery, the lights don't come one, possibly not enough charge. and i can't start it. any ideas how i should test it?? cheers, atocp
  25. Hey guys, This is just a quickie wiring question. I'm currently wiring up the rear light on my bike. Well actually, i've stopped to have dinner. A nice salad, with a cold meats selection. Really nice, you'd like it. It's healthy and appetising. Anyways, I replaced the light on my bike and the colours don't match, I was just wondering if anyone knew which colours matched with which? Old light was Black - Blue - Yellow. New light is Black/White - Red - Black I was thinking, keep black, black and check the others, but im not sure which I should pair up. Any ideas? You'd really like this salad by the way, its light enough to stop you feeling bloated, but filling enough not to leave you hungry. Cheers for any help you can give me, I'm away back out to the garage soon. Many thanks, atocp
