  1. Hi Jim I guess we r now but can you explain how to ride a cow .. like how do you get them in the mood for riding ? and I guess you need to be of a riding weight ! Regards Jim
  2. Hi Barry, does the bike tend to misfire & 'stutter' a lot ? Regards Jim
  3. Hi Atocp, the brass inserts were used in the early 70's until helicoil kits became common place .. some people continued to use the insert as to a degree lest precision was needed to fit one (no drill required just a tap) but its thread may be knacked . with the head you have bought it could be one of a few things ... I guess you had to bend (open up) the studs for the head to fit which may indicate the head is from a different year model YB or a YG or even more bizzare an FS (the latter 2 being smaller size motors but of the same family). The studs you have are worn out and need new ones perhaps Yamaha part number 90116-06026 is what you need to order dependant on year the 26 may need to 30 or so but from memory the part no stated should fit. Regards Jim

    Whats it worth?

Yep I guess so .. perhaps I had my eastern european head on at the time ... some one wanted help on an ETZ300 and I was multi tasking as every woman will tell you men cannot do that Regards Jim
  5. Hi Dirty Gr8 bike I have one in my charge at the moment & tbh I love it .... but I do have some problems with the carbs (to the point if I whistle the carbs jump off) I suspect one of the floats is not floating or the valve seat is worn out but overall I rate it Regards Jim
  6. coo it fuels up on simular to me replace the Diamond White with "THE BOW" and I'm sure that will work for most ... how does the BF handle ? Regards Jim

    Whats it worth?

not when I posted ! Regards Jim
  8. Hi Jim, I would guess it's not a good idea ..... until it's sorted ... but a question I have for you is how do you fuel up the BF ? to me it looks well dodgy ! Regards Jim
  9. Hi Mick, dont forget short about short trips the tin foil may still work ... as I have worked out you are in the UK you may find that the heated oil via the short runs means you don't need to do the longer runs if you have been on the lash Regards Jim
  10. Hi Rayne, it's always good to get a second opinion you may find a technician at another shop (may be better trained) and pick up something the original missed. tbh I have done that in the 80's & tbh I've missed stuff that others have picked up and vice versa ). With regard to weaking your case I think not .. remember YMUK's dealers are their touch point with the consumers & not YMUK ... unless things go wrong. I would guess YMUK would not worry as to which dealer did the repair as long as it is done correctly you may find that another dealer may 'lend' you a bike if yours is off the road in order to have repeat biz from you whether that be service or new sales but reading throgh the comments you have posted I would guess you are upset with your failure ... it happens to all machines .... and perhaps have taken the wrong tact with YMUK as tbh they will investigate to the point they are satisfied with perhaps some dealer penalties Regards Jim
  11. Hi Mick if the oil gets hot enough and boils off the water it should be Ok. I did not know that you had already put in fresh oil which, I would guess over the mileage done, would not be too full of water and things will return to normal with the oil getting hot enuff Regards Jim
  12. Hi Mike, I would guess you are suffering from oil that is not getting hot enough and has a an element of water in it due to the short runs. The water reacts with the clutch and stops it freeing ... so you could replace it ( & filter) and while using the bike commuting cover the oil cooler with tin foil this will allow the oil to get warm enough and dispell the water from it. Dependant of the temp the bike is normally run at (ambient not engine) and the engine speed you may find the foil can stay in place all the time. Regards Jim
  13. Hi Mick, 2 questions 1) is it watercooled or air cooled (as you have not supplied the year) 2) do you use the bike short to shortish journeys ? Regards Jim
  14. Hi Tylerman by 1976 in the UK we had a decal (bar some old stock kicking around) but of course this may be different for different parts of the world .. and as you say if you have it flaunt it !!! Regards Jim
  15. Hi Rayne, that I'm affraid does not give me much to go on as to the failure. How many miles have you now done since the rebuild ? It would be good to get a copy of the claim form as in my day you had to stipulate the componet failure then list the other parts as being caused by the major part failing. I still feel it is dealer at fault here perhaps it may be worth taking the bike to a different outlet to see if the diagnosis is the same. From what I have read the bike has a good reliability record. Sorry I cannot be more help but given more info perhaps I could Regards Jim

    Whats it worth?

Joshua a 1994 import FS1E it would be good to know what you are talking about Regards Jim
  17. Hi Rayne, can you explain what exactly went wrong with the bike Regards Jim
  18. Hi atocp, are you sure that the cylinder studs are not striped or worn ? the would make you think you have the head tight enough but as your post suggests it is not ! If you have a brass insert fitted to the head make sure it's screwed up tight (they were poor tbh) then dot punch it to the head from the combustion chamber side (assuming it was fitted correctly) in order to stop it undoing. So check the studs & nuts ... fit a new head gaskit/studs/nuts and torque the head down to the specs. with regard to instant gaskit I would suggest it will not suffer the extreme heat of a cylinder. The replacement Head ... why didn't it fit correctly ? Regards Jim
  19. Hi, time to get the carbs to bits in the last 5 years of no running there is a big chance that the internals of the carbs will need some tlc. This is backed up from the carb floods you mention ... Take um off and spend a lot of time inspecting & cleaning them you may find the bike will start (in some form) when the engine is not flooded ! Regards Jim

    Ow.

Hi Jim not quite the truck has bigger brushes tbh I have only gone out in it twice ... as my forte is bin lorries, but both times I have been out have been due to fuel spills on islands which oddly enuff were blamed on the bin lorries but when I got to both problems they were both on the wrong side of the island for the bin lorry to have spilt fuel .... unless the crews had gone out and come straight back in !!! Regards Jim
  21. Hi, unless the engine is over full or has some ingress of fuel to the motor causing it to over fill Regards Jim
  22. Hi Rayne Andy Smith is the M.D of YMUK when I first met him he worked at a promotions company from Ludlow from there moved to being a Yamaha sales rep then onwards up through the company to MD have a look here http://londonbikers.com/news/2596/yamaha-m...d-prix-uk-final Regards Jim

Hi Mike, no problems ... perhaps you should have followed her to bed and give her some national service training .. that normally sorts um out ... but run over to Martley Hillside and scrump some apples & see if you can make some 'bow' at least you will be starting off with the same base product .... perhaps you should have said "rt hand down then lft hand down on the driving leason or where you under the influence of the 'dreaded Bow' Regards Jim
