  1. the caps simply screw into the wire, put the rubber sleeve on the wire first then slide it over the cap when fitted, with the coils unscrew the knurled plastic nut at the front of the coil, inside that you will see a rubber grommet remove the grommet put the nut over the wire thread facing the coil, then place grommet over wire, inside coil you will see a metal pin push wire into coil over pin, then slide grommet and nut up to the threaded part of the coil and screw up, the nut and grommet will clamp the wire in merv

  3. A bike made from donated parts with it's very own heart transplant. Papworth gave LC club member Foxie a heart transplant in 2006, so we thought we would give something back.   4. I presume you mean the cap like this in which case if you have one you can open look underneath it ands see the position of the catch, you can then take a bent screwdriver and push it under the locked one merv
  5. you can undo the cap with a bent screwdriver just push it under the lock end, in england yuo can still get keys from a yamaha dealer just from the number or a decent key specialist merv

  9. look around the bottom of the race /stem you can see the join Take a small cold chisel (not a woodwork one) and tap it into the joint it should gradually part from the fork stem once it starts too move you can then lever it up, be careful not too damage the surface of the stem if you do clean it up before you try to fit the new bearing, and do not forget to put the seal in Merv

    the crank can be rebuilt the big end ball bearings will be replaced with the rest of the bearings and pins that they run in PJ engineering will do this for you they have a collection and return service, pj engineering they did my aircooled 400 crank a couple of years ago i think it cost £160 at the time too rebuild you get new rods bearings and lab seal all pressed together and trued up, Norbo may have some exchange units cheaper but rebuilt using the good parts from the crank not all new parts rdlc crazy merv

    Unfortunately newtronic went out of business last year, it has been taken over but they do not seem to be making kits at the moment, there is a chance a kit maybe lying around at a dealer or in the store at newtronics. website newtronics

Drewps Dont know bog all about modern XS,s so i stand corrected anfd thanks for doing that my specialist subject RD 250/350/400 aircooled before 1981 A good way of translating parts is go to german ebay enter the name of the part you are tryingto translate in the search box and hey presto you should have a picture merv ebay de Bremmszange = caliper? yes Hohlschraube = brake line? No quite literally hole bolt, but banjo bolt too us, to take 2 lines you will need another line of course Handbremmszylinder = master cylinder? yes
  18. Front twin discs, XS500/ 650 bits should do it, unless you can find a front end from newer bike that goes straight into your triple trees, as for rear shock again take a look around measure the shock and see if a later bike one fits I:e xj600 possibly merv
  19. i have managed to source a supply of stainless footrest mount pins fit most old yams XS/RD/ FS1E etc with a 6mmx 35mm pin complete with stainless washer and stainless cotter pin £6 a set, paypal available ask for postage costs outside uk merv
