RagnarLothbrok
Hi everyone! I’m new here and am looking for some help. I’ve got a Yamaha xvs 1100 dragstar and appear to have a tiny oil leak from the rear cylinder that appears to be about the head gasket. How hard is this to strip down and repair and is it possible to repair it myself without needing to have the head skimmed? Or is this possibly a ‘vibration’ issue where the bolts just need re torqued? Please help
neversaydie
Hi there. Always try the simplest and cheapest possible solution first. Try to nip the bolts up a little. I guess that you mean from the head gasket.
Moderator Cynic Posted October 27, 2018 Moderator Share Posted October 27, 2018 I would qualify the above with check the head bolts are tight with a torque wrench rather than nip them up. Don't want to snap or weaken a stud. Head bolts don't vibrate loose unless they were not done up properly in the first place. If its a truly 'tiny' oil leak don't worry about it. jimmy
Would we be advocating loosening off all bolts prior to re-torquing them
