2006 YBR125 engine cut-outs.

Hi folks! Newbie to the forum and relatively new biker also. I've got a 2006 YBR125 that's my pride and joy, but recently it's been causing me hell. So, to summarise; upon starting up, the bike idles comfortably (both with the choke, and then after a couple of minutes, without it). It idles low, but that's been messed with by me adjusting my idle to about 1500rpm. However, if you leave it running for 5 minutes or so, or you so much as feather-touch the throttle, the engine cuts out and the bike struggles to restart through electrics or kick-start. I've not got a video, but essentially it runs like a bag of nails and you can hear that the engine's just losing all power.

So, I've given it a new battery, new carbs, new tappets and cleaned everything out that I can get to. My dad's also worked on it - crux of it is, it's practically had a new bloody engine, but the problem is still persisting, even when trying to adjust the idle speeds. This happens when I ride it too - everytime I come to a stop or slow the bike down, it cuts out. Crazy frustrating.

Anyone got any suggestions on how else I can try and fix the problem before I give up and chuck it into a garage? I'm trying to do it myself to a) save money and b) feel like I can actually do something capably.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this is an age-old question. I don't mean to repost!

Nixx.

I've set the tickover to factory setting already but not sure how best to approach cleaning the tank...Also unsure what a petcock is, more learning required on my part! Thanks though, I'll give this a go.

The pet cock is the fuel tap.

Next time you leave it running and it starts to bog down try simply opening the petrol cap. If that has a small breather hole in it, it may be blocked causing an air lock. You will hear a hiss of air and the bike will pick up. If so,  simply clean out the small hole.

If it doesn't have the breather hole then check the breather pipe on the tank is not blocked or kinked

Cheers mate! I gave this a go and it didn't make a difference so I might have to take a look at he breather pipe on the tank. To the manual! :P
The fuel tap's been looked at already, according to the fella working on it (my dad). Overall so far it's had a new piston and barrel, the valves have been taken out and lapped in because there was no compression, there's been new gaskets rebuilt, timing set and okay, tappets are a little loose but rather that than too tight. New carb because the air screw had seized in the old one, new spark plug...

I'm wondering if it's something to do with the air filter, but a kinked fuel line could be the issue too. It's a weird one. Cheers for the help fellas, appreciate it!
