That brings back memories, my Dad did it that way back in the day

Wouldn't recommend it for modern chains with orings , xrings & whatever!

my dad too Tommy ;)

OK I lied...he never had bikes...it was me

God your comment makes me feel old :(

I remember doing it once as a 17yr old. My maw was a lot less than impressed and I received a "Gypsies Warning"

Yep I feel bloody old to! Did this when I was 14 on my Fanny Barnett, then the only chain you could get was open end.

Boiling it in wax to clean/lube it? Too young to have ever seen anyone do this, that must have been a huge pain in the ass to do

I cleaned it first, then boiled it. No hassle really considering I have multiple bikes [emoji16]

That's the best number of bikes

A non O-ring chain used with a Scottoiler ,or Kev's patented method of oiling a little and often with clean engine oil , will last longer than any O/X-ring chain lubed with spray crap .  And will always stay clean with no horrendous gunk monsters hiding behind the front sprocket cover .

Scottoiler would be my choice if it was an everyday bike
