Do you know what? I've never had to replace my plug leads on any of my bikes (car a lot of times)

Have you ever realised if car leads get wet it causes problems but bike leads are open to all types of weather so I must presume they are very robust to say the least, so does surprise me a little bit that you've got brittle ones.

But, if I where in you're situation I would definatley go for Airheads suggestion of fitting connectors.
