Spiner Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 So I bought myself a 2005 Yamaha TZR50 And as usual it has the speedometer problem , but my problem is a bit different. When i start the bike the speedometer reads 0MPH and after the bike warms up the speedometer says random numbers upto 50MPH eg.8,32,50,42,1,21 When I rev the bike in neutral it increases the speed eg.10,20,30. Any ideas? THANKS.

Spiner Posted May 26, 2015 Author Posted May 26, 2015 LoL Also when I unplug the sensor from the wheel , it doesnt change anything.
KevtheRev Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Alright Spiner , has the wiring been hacked about before ? Does the rev counter work ok ? Could somebody have crossed the wires ? Are there any chafed wires which could be shorting out ?
Spiner Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 The Rev counter works , I have no clue what has been done as I bought the bike on Saturday. All The wires look normal.
KevtheRev Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Hmm , I'd try cleaning the connections and checking continuity to the sensor .
Spiner Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 I cleaned all the connections and cleaned the sensor itself. Still nothing, Thanks for the replys
slice Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Had a look on the net about this, seems that if someone has tried to de-restrict the bike then this can be a problem with the speedo, you have to (apparently) cut some wires at the back of the unit and if your not much good at electrics you can short the unit out, don't know if that's your problem but most who have done this end up buying a new after market unit and then move on from there. Not what you want to hear I suppose but if that's your difficulty then that might be your only choice.
