braced swingarm question

Looking at possibilities for a TDM project - one option that's come up is a YZF750 braced swingarm - 850 isn't rising rate suspension so the linkages would be ditched & a mount would need welded on, however there isn't the space on top so would it be stupid to assume I could just flip it over so that the brace was underslung father than over ? obviously the underslung caliper would become over - is there some obvious reason that that wouldn't work ? potential problems that I can see would seem to be the run of the chain & possibly the rear brake (instead of pulling against the torque arm would be pusting it - is that an issue ? )

Almost everything is possible with enough time and money. Common issues for fitting different swingarms are;

Width of the swingarm mounting - it has to fit in the frame at the swingarm bolt

Swingarm bolt size too thick/thin

Clearance - all around

Shock mounting - as mentioned but if you are turning it upside down then the brake caliper might be grabbing at the wrong part of the disc

Rear sprocket offset from the engine sprocket position.

All are able to be overcome but a swing arm manufacturer would be able to make you a swingarm that fitted a lot easier - apart from the offset. You may have to get the shaft extended for that.

searching for the holy grail of the perfect mod with 0% hassle - not entirely convinced by the YZF solution but had been offered at a very good price - also toying with the idea of SV1000 rear end, no bracing very chunky looking and will take a 180 rear & as I already have the SV I can take some measurements

Everything, but the chain alignment can be easy. Offer up, measure and get welded. You need to take the measurement of the chain from the center of the bike to see if a 180 could be fitted without snagging the chain otherwise your front sprocket shaft will have to be extended.

The brake set up wont change. You will have to remake the brake mounts on the other side if your flipping the arm over.

And obviously removing the originals from what is now chain side.
