DT175 neutral problem!

My '79 DT175 sometimes takes ages to get into neutral! And week by week, it seems like it's increasing in terms of difficulty to find neutral.

Any advice or help is appreciated

Change the oil, check the oil level and check the chain tension.

Changed the oil recently and the oil level is fine. And for the chain tension, do I push up the chain from half way through, I shouldn't have a chain that travels more than 3 cm vertical correct?

Oh btw could low lubrication on the chain be a factor not helping neutral to be engaged?

40mm at a point 4 chain links behind the chain tensioner when the chain is at it's tightest point. The chain should always be well lubed.

I would also say its either clutch related of the gearbox internals. Does the bike ever wanna pull away even with the clutch in? If so its dragging, i believe.

Just sarcasm. Dt175 gearbox internals are all but indestructable in proper use. Even improper use doesent really hurt them.

Its basic with sensible tolerances and built to last.

I have never known one fail without real serious neglect and or abuse.

If the front sprocket is hooked it may affect gear selection , otherwise as above , check the chain tension and clutch cable freeplay at the lever .
