Posted February 14, 200619 yr Morning all. My first visit and post here. After being in the US for 8 years now, and missing biking from back in the UK, I have the hankering for a bike again. MY good friend, a non biker, has just got a nice second hand HD Sportster thingy. Now let me just say that if you like that sort of thing...fine with me, BUT, it aint my cuppa tea! So have been thrashing around, wondering and pondering what to get and am sort of narrowing it down. Went to a local dealer that had a cpl of '06 ST's. After my '93 trophy, they felt way too sporty for me. Little did I know, DUH, that there arent any Trumpet Trophies any more. There didnt appear to be much wind protection, the seat was way lower, a common complaint on the Trophy was it was too high, but at 6'1 didnt worry me. There was too much lean forward for me. And power............better get plastic diapers/nappies ready. So, back to the search. Havent seen a Futura here in the US yet, I know they are rarer here BUt sat on one a while ago and it felt nice .....so.... Am now looking at perhaps an FJR, as there are a cpl around here for sale but no Futura's. Mainly me but with the other 1/2 occasionally. Not much opportunity for scratching around here etc.... Occasional weekends away, but mostly me pottering around instead of the R Rover. Therer are a lot of blind deaf n dumb car drivers here in the North of Tampa bay area, so figured a BIG bike "might" be more vis. Late 40's now, 6'1 and 195 lbs Is the older ST, say 03/04/05 a more "touring" than "sporty". And the Futura too??Or os the FJR a better all round bet/.................... February 15, 200619 yr Moderator to the forum Cornishgolfer I reside @ the opposite end of the states from Tampa bay......& I have seen a Futura only once. Nice Bike indeed. The ST strikes me as being more on the Touring side of things.......but the FJR seems to be a real nice compramise between Sport & Touring .....Plenty of grunt for pillion work, but all day comfy with adaquate storage as well. I guess it just depends on where your Biking needs fall into place @.

February 16, 200619 yr Author My wifes Mother has/had 22 first cousins up there! I think the only Ward farmers left are near ST Gennys! We had many a fun afternoon on the canal back in the 70's when we were going out

March 8, 200618 yr Author we are 3 boys in our family........... ANYWAY. Back to bikes. I am DEFINTELY now looking at either the Sprint ST or the Futura or the FJR. The ST and FUTURA are approx the same ish, lightish and perhaps a tad sporting. The FJR heavier and a tad more touring. They are quite differant. Whats your thoughts FJR owners............
March 9, 200618 yr I would say have a look at the fazer 1000 as good as it gets tour, scratch, stunt or commute brill try one and see but buy the fzs1000 the new one gets slamed by mcn
