Valve stem seals on order. Arriving next week. Engine back together mid august and hopefully rear light on. Mot and wheelies

Right, As I'm waiting on the stem seals to arrive i decided to look at the rear light and my leaking petrol tap today.

First i had to drain the fuel out of the tank:

Took the tap apart and the seals had worn and i could see why it was leaking petrol even when in the off mode, It was also nearly impossible to turn the tap off/on by hand.

The bottom of the fuel tap filters were caked in mud/grass. i cleaned all that up and put the new seals in:

I put it all back together and whalaaaaaaa. Perfectly working fuel tap. Put a bit of silicone spray on the seals with moving parts. Smooth as butter now. Very happy.

I then moved onto the rear light i've recently received:
You can just about see, there is mold marks on the under side of the rear fender.

all done by my mate ian - works in engine development

Valve spring compressor on:

Custom tool made by ian gave us a perfect amount of room to fit the collets:

1 new valve installed:

Unfortunately thats as far as we got. My friend Ian's car ran out of MOT the other day and he hadnt realised. Hes since also found a lot of rot on his car which needs welding. so obviously his daily vehicle takes priority.
I've got Friday off so im hopefully going to finish the valves then. reinstall head over the weekend and book an mot for the following weekend/week.

Cheers
Ross.

Great read so far mate....Nowt like good mates to help you out.

Yeah, I honestly dont have the mechanical know how to do this myself. Would have been a builder/garage job otherwise so i am extremely grateful. Im a computer guy :-) who enjoys bikes

Just need to pop to my mates to collect the head off him, refit cams and shim. re-fit the head and test fire her up :-)

its just wire in rear light, bleed front brake and MOT...oh maybe get some fuel and do some engine tuning to get her running right.

bad times....

Well as you all know from above, my head was built and ready to go on. So Dan and Ian came over Saturday and we started work :-) coffee at the ready:
20140830_125239_zps88zlcst9.jpg

Unfortunately we found a problem when attempting to fit the no3 inlet bucket
20140830_131454_zpsrhl9osat.jpg

Well it turns out the no3 inlet valve was bent, so the spring wasn't sitting right, causing the bucket to not go in straight/snag.

This is how I've left the bike:
20140830_180646_zpsju4y773r.jpg

My mate Ian has taken the entire engine back to his to hopefully run the head through a parts washer and rebuild once my new parts arrive.

I've ordered a single inlet valve and new stem seals again.

9th-15th Sept for my delivery from the USA. very frustrated now..., as through no fault of my own the bikes not on the road.

we did manage to bleed my front brake mind, so not a fully wasted day...

arhghghghggh

Damn setbacks. :shakeno: but it'll make it that much sweeter when you do get her on the road. :thumb:
