Hiya peeps.

Im starting to look into insuring my DT project, but the cheapest quote i can find is for £107 from Swinton (FC), im 21 now with 4 years no claims, on a full licence, my old man is paying just less than £70 to insure a 1100 moto guzzi with 0 no claims :(.

i know its not exactly a massive premium, but for a 50 that is going to spend most of its life indoors with an annual mileage of about 2000 it doesnt seem worth it O.o.

has anyone had any luck with some other companies?

I think that's a good deal Foam's, given your age and that fact a 50cc can't keep up with the traffic so becomes a hazard and so a risk to any insurer :eusa_shifty:

That has to be about the same as the RD for me. Have you spoken to Lee? Once you get into the small money bracket then there is little to gain. If you compare it to some of the grand plus some young riders are paying then it sounds reasonable. Don't forget that even if you dont ride it you are still insured for theft, fire or if it falls over in the wind. 29p a day or a little more than the price of a box of 20 cigarettes a month.

bikesure (thorugh the YOC thread) came back at £288 :shakeno:

and they wouldn't take my 4 years existing no claims because i already used them when i bought the fireblade policy, is this normal?

looks like i will be going with swinton at the moment.

Standard with the no claims. You normally can only use the no claims once so if your blade is using it then you need to check with swintons that you can use it again, I doubt they will let you. I am running 2 levels of NCB with 2 companies and one policy has 2 bikes on it but I have NCB on both policies earnt by running consecutive insurance for different bikes.

It does seem a little unfair as if I have an accident in the car I would potentially lose my NCB on both bike policies when I haven't been able to use that against the bikes.

Can you get a classic policy on the blade and add the donkey to it?

Try for a multibike policy. Get them all covered. 'should' be cost of the blade ins plus a bit. For the extra paperwork and f/t risk.

The insurance wins while you ride a 50 at blade rates but overall you will save.

I'd definitely go for a multi bike policy, will cost pennies extra to insure the 50 if the blade is your main bike

Both myself and my wife have multi - bike policies. When she put her CRF 230 on her Fazer 1000 policy the extra premium was virtually nothing (although being in our 50's our insurance is pretty cheap anyway.

Well both my cars are jap imports, so i have them insured with sky (underwritten by Adrian flux) as they specialise in imports. i rang carol nash to insure my FTO and they were asking twice what sky were for the FTO alone :(
