balladhead Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Hi Folks, I'm a newbie, still on CBT licence. Need advice\instruction on how to remove battery for winter storage and trickle feed charge. Tried google and youtube, no joy. Cheers Balladhead
slice Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 On most of the bikes I have worked on you remove the seat and it's under there somewhere? just remove the terminals and the battery strap and lift it out, can I ask why you want to remove it and charge it over winter? Can't you just charge it where it is? PS DON'T use a car charger for you bike battery you will cook it as it has to be charged at a lot lower voltage than a car battery, sorry if you already know this just dotting the i's and crossing the t's Bike batteries usually have to be charged at about 1.5 amps and cars at 8 Amps I think.
Moderator Airhead Posted December 20, 2013 Moderator Posted December 20, 2013 It's a good idea to disconnect one side of the battery and give it a charge once every 4 weeks or so, no need to leave it permanenty on charge.
JohnnyAC Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 You could leave it connected and just run it once a month? For reference a basic rule is to charge a battery at 10% of it's Ah rating. So for a 15Ah battery would take 1.5Ah. Less charging current is perfectly fine, it will just take longer to charge. Johnny
