x-kid
I want to strip the piant from just the spokes of my cast alloy bike wheels so that the rims and hubs are still painted black yet the spokes are bare alloy which i will then put a protective coating on. Does anyone know the best way to achieve this?
Moderator DirtyDT Posted December 17, 2013 Moderator Share Posted December 17, 2013 I would take them to a specialist painter and get them painted black rims and satin silver spokes. You could try this yourself with some decent masking skills.
Moderator Airhead Posted December 17, 2013 Moderator Share Posted December 17, 2013 I agree. paint the spokes, that way they'll be protected from the elements / salt etc besides, paint stripper just doesnt have any ability to do 'what it says on the tin' any more, thank the tree hugger eurocrats for that! Moderator drewpy Posted December 18, 2013 Moderator Share Posted December 18, 2013 it would have to be a blast media for that, or a dremmel and a few spare hours
slice
Although Airhead is right that the paint stripper is not as effective as it used to be you can use "Nitromors" which does quite a good job, paint it on and leave it for about 5 mins than paint some more on and so on till the paint bubbles and rolls off, use gloves as it's a bastard when you get it on your skin you just need patience to get it to work ok. Noise
Gotta agree with the Nitromors, it used to be a white gloop (dare i say.......... like man happy gel) but now they changed it to some sort of green monkey snot that wouldn't even strip the wifes make up off. Old stuff burned like fuck when it got onto your skin but the new stuff is just...........well safe!!
Moderator Cynic Posted December 19, 2013 Moderator Share Posted December 19, 2013 Strip the wheels down and have them vapour blasted. You can then paint them yourself with good results, might even find somebody that will do the lot. Can be cheaper than you expect too. Trying to strip part of the finish will just be a disaster.
