AndrewElvisFan
I had to order a new number plate cos some silly old bugger drove into me while sat in traffic (in his 80's also had a traffic cone under his car!) and cracked mine. In my haste in ordering I've got one which is smaller cos I ticked the wrong bloody box. Does anyone have experience of how hot the law is when it comes to incorrect sizing? Can't really afford another £20 this month - new school uniforms etc etc!
Noise
Well my plate is small and has Bart Simpson showing his ass, touch wood I've not been pulled yet but I will be changing it soon to a bigger size and with out el barto. If it's stupidly small then I think they will pull you but if its only slightly smaller then I doubt they will notice. But I'mknow to be wrong lol
NE0
Does anyone have experience of how hot the law is when it comes to incorrect sizing That all depends if you get stopped! In the first instance.........have you ever had a cop car behind you? personaly i rarely SEE a cop these days, let alone a squad car!! It would seem that unless you have a high police presence in your area, you're not likely have one behind you! Thereagain, if you draw attention to yourself:- speeding, dangerous riding etc etc then you can expect to be pulled, and if they pull you over , they will no doubt have a look at your bike then. I might be in the minority........ but i've been riding since 1978 i've only ever been pulled over by a cop once.......... and that was in 1978..!! Moderator DirtyDT Posted September 7, 2013 Moderator Share Posted September 7, 2013 For the bike? Normally 9 inches wide by 7 inches tall. That is 228mm x 178mm in new money. It depends of what size you brought and what the reg is. Don't post your reg up but some numbers and letter combinations mean you can get away with different size plates. Providing they meet these measurements: Character height:- 64mm Character width excl 1 & I :- 44mm Character stroke:- 10mm Space between characters:- 10mm Space between groups:- 30mm Top, Bottom & side margins (Minimum):- 11mm Space between vertical lines:- 13mm On 2 lines of text. AndrewElvisFan
Bugger - my figures are 47x30 in A123 BCD formation Having said that never pulled on a bike in 20 yrs of twist and go and only once in a car doing excessive speed other than when I had an Escort Ghia aged 17! I don't tend to draw attention - always try and ride defensively. I'll google possible fine/penalties.
Moderator DirtyDT Posted September 7, 2013 Moderator Share Posted September 7, 2013 Personally I wouldn't worry about it. Proportion and perspective count and on a smallish vehicle it shouldn't look out of place. It's not like the characters are tiny! I rode to Squires last year without any brake light, indicators, horn etc. I got on the bike to start the journey and found that they weren't working. The bike was loaded so I decided to just go for it.
bippo
I don't tend to draw attention As long as you aren't riding in your Elvis get-up... 10 years on the road for me and I've been pulled once, something like 2am on a Saturday morning by a bored copper who thought I'd be an easy gig. I had some shitty Seat Ibiza (58 plate) where the left or right fog light would automatically come on when either indicating or steering a certain amount in either direction. So I was indicating right at a roundabout, therefore my right fog light was on. Every copper I've met has been very nice but this one was smug. Until I calmly explained and demonstrated that its the way the car has been built. I even had my car manual to hand as proof. New Mercs and VW's do it too I've noticed. No way of turning it off unless I removed the bulbs! As someone who hates the fog light brigade, the car got sold. Just one of its many pitfalls. As an aside, I hope nothing else was damaged on your bike matey.
AndrewElvisFan
Cheers DT think I'll wait til payday to change it then! Hopefully at worse it'll be an advisory/producer if I get pulled.
Moderator Cynic Posted September 8, 2013 Moderator Share Posted September 8, 2013 I think it is one of the sillier things but with most of traffic policing done by anpr. Any plate that is tricky to read makes you a target.
Tommy xs
I would change it when you get a chance just not worth the hassle, just give's them an excuse to pull you then they'll try and find something else to do you for. Plate size? I like a big plate myself! especially if the'res a buffet!!
