freedomdrifter
Hello there. I'm a car guy and lately I started getting into bikes also. So I decided to get on getting a Yamaha DT175 from a friend. My buddy is going to sell me it for a nice price but what I don't know is the model of it neither he does. I mean is it a DT175MX or any other type? What year is it? I need help in figuring out what it has. Its got a rear monoshock suspension and has a red color (incase that might help identify what it is). My friend only knows that its a 1970's bike. Also can someone please explain what is CDI and point? what systems are they? and how do I know which of the both does the bike have. Thanks in advance

Moderator DirtyDT Posted August 20, 2013 Moderator Share Posted August 20, 2013 As Blackhat says, post up the first few bits of the frame number. The biggest differences with the monoshock ones were the side the oil tank is and if it has a square or round swing arm.
laidbackjay
Hi, I am in a similar position as freedomfighter. I am trying to find out what year my DT175 is. I do know that the engine has been replaced, so it does not match the frame. Unfortunately. The frame number is 2K4-011686 X. The 2 stroke oil resivour is on the left side behind the side panel. The battery is on the right hand side below the air box. I have been told it is a 1979. Please can someone help me? Regards Jason
